USA - So I just got a start date on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT)

No social media, Gpx files or anything of that sort. I used to try and post a group email to family and friends from trail towns. Each hike took me roughly 4 months.

USA - So I just got a start date on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT)

Absolutely brilliant. I did the PCT in 2008. Then the CDT in 2012 and the AT in 2014, finishing on Mount Kathardin on my 60th birthday. You will love being away from civilisation for several days at a time before resupply with food. Have you decided on your trail name yet?

    Camino de Madrid.

Thanks Tom. I have had a look on Booking.com, but would sooner take a recommendation off a fellow pilgrim. This is my 14th camino walk and I only ever book accommodation for the start and never anything after that, so as to give me the flexibility of my length of walk each day. Only ever had 1...

Hello, I am going to walk the Camino De Madrid, onto the French and then the Winter way to Santiago. Electrolytes Help. I forgot my Nuun

Eat fresh tomatoes. The sodium in them is brilliant at stopping cramp. I have consumed cherry tomatoes for years whilst competing in long distance walking and trail races.

    No tech!!!

No need for tech gadgets.. I do not prebook accommodation. In 11 caminos, I have only had a problem once. The routes are very well marked with arrows and shells. Doing the camino is a great adventure and you have to take whatever the camino throws at you and solve it.

Anyone know why Spanish people put water bottles outside their front door?

There is a bread delivery service and they deliver and hang the bag on a handle or fence post, so as to keep the bread off the ground.

    Ultimate Dog Repellent

Why be afraid of dogs? Well In march this year I was attacked by 2 dogs on the Via de la Plata just south of Melida and bitten, I required hospital treatment. I was not afraid of dogs before this incident, but now do not trust them.

    no toilet paper in washroom

Standard practice when I walk is to always carry toilet paper. Apart from the toilet issue, can be very useful for other situations.

Highlights of Via de la Plata

Be very careful on the stretch just south of Melida. Last week I was on my own and a dog came towards me and started being aggressive, unknown to me, another dog came from behind and grabbed my left thigh and took a chunk out of it. I needed hospital attention. I told the local police, basically...

Route suggestions once you've done all the obvious caminos?

Try the Camino route from Alicante to Santiago and then out to Muxia or Finisterre, so a coast to coast across Spain.. From Alicante I only saw 4 other pilgrims untile around 100km from Santiago.
