The Way, My Way - the movie

I also have met many non-USA pilgrims who had seen and been influenced by The Way. Well said Vacajoe!

    Getting to SJPP

Hitman0 - I have done what you propose twice. Yes, there is stress involved, but maybe it is just another story to be told. The night of rest in SJPdP before walking will be enough. You’ll be raring to go!

First Camino, starting February 23rd, 2022!

Hannah - You will do fine. This will be your 1st Camino. You will be back for more. You will have tough days, but yearn for them all over again, in your future years. You will meet people who will share more with you in the 1st 5 minutes than they would their best friends at home. Such is...

Best Unique and Comfortable Albergues on the Camino Francés with Communal Experiences

Every place I have stayed has offered worthwhile experiences and/or opportunities to meet other interesting pilgrims. I have walked the Camino Frances twice, in '12 and '18. Each time I stayed at the Albergue de la Piedra in Villafranca del Bierzo (west of Ponferrada) ...

    Don’t underestimate cold in Pyrenees

He did make it to Roncesvalles, and as often happens, our paths crossed a few more times along The Way.

    Don’t underestimate cold in Pyrenees

Side note on the Valcarlos route. I took this route in May '18. I saw one solo pilgrim and one small group from Barcelona the entire day. The solo pilgrim was from England, and when I passed him he was lying flat beside the path. He looked up at me, sweaty and exhausted, and said, "Shoot...

Opinion on Son walking the Camino

Anto - My daughter walked the full Camino Frances in '12 at the age of 27, and again in '18. She gets it, and so will your son. Ultreia!

    Disparaging "The Way"

I suppose that after 19,000+ views and 300+ comments, that I am very late to this party. Regardless, "The Way" inspired me to walk the Camino Frances in '12. Prior to seeing the movie, I had no knowledge of the Camino de Santiago. The Camino itself, drew me back in '18. I'm not sure how many...

    Discouraged in Florida

Elsa - I have not read through all of the replies, so I apologize in advance if I am repetitive. I find that most Forum posts generally are, but all are good. First, you will do fine. It will be an experience you will treasure forever. I can relate to your comment here about time off, and/or...

    HELP! (Shoe advice) April 2020

Jeremy - I walked from SJPdP in April '12, and again in May '18. Wore broken in Vasque waterproof boots in '12. Even though I had much rain and snow, I quickly discarded my boots for Keen hiking (closed toe!) sandals, and my feet could not have been happier. Wore a lighter weight hiking shoe...

Stamps between Monte de Gozo and Santiago

For what it is worth, I have twice hiked the Camino Frances (SJPP to Santiago), and never received more than the one stamp I received from my Albergue. Each time I received my compostela.

Favourite Francés albergue - quick vote!

Too late for the survey, but my favorite is the Albergue de la Piedra in Villafranca del Bierzo ... http://alberguedelapiedra.com/ . I have stayed there on 2 separate Camino Frances journeys. It is a very special Albergue, run by a wonderful couple.

Are you 70+ and still walking Caminos?

I began my May '18 Camino Frances in SJPdP, eating breakfast while sitting across from an 80 year old Argentinian man and an 81 year old Japanese man, each planning to hike to Santiago. They are pictured here ...

    Cleaning cruz de ferro

Whatever happened to "Let everyone hike their own Camino?" How quickly we forget. The Cruz de Ferro was very meaningful to me on each of my two trips, regardless of all of the "expert" opining (whining?) here. Let it be so.

    Alsa website problem

Pixie - Maybe it works until you get to payment info? They do not accept US issued credit cards, only PayPal. I experienced similar frustration until I figured it out.
