Wonder if this was same chap I had dinner with in Ventosa in 2015. He was an Italian fireman, I think running it for charity, His heels were bleeding by then (wish he handnt felt it necessary to show us at dinner table 😖) but he was determined to go on.
What time do you arrive? My son and I are arriving in Santiago too late for the train. We have booked bus via OMIO for £28 each to ponferrada in October leaving 14.15. We get into Ponferrada about18.00hrs but I think there was a later bus even.
There's a very small charge - cost of a cafe con leche. I found that well worth it for the reassurance of the gps, and on the occasions when I had drifted off route it showed me exactly where I was and how to get back on track.
Sorry to hear your problems. Hope you heal soon. Re phone I had recharging problems with my I phone. After consulting I tunes I used a paper clip to scratch around in the socket on the phone. Amazed at how much fluff came out been fine since. I suggest turning off first.
Agree with above suggestion of skipping last day into Burgos so you could go back and start from where you left off the next time. Wouldn't have wanted to miss the last day myself. The view on good day overlooking Burgos, still quite a few hours away, was one I'll remember.

There are number of apps for iPhone. The one I used most last year when I walked from St Jean to Santiago was TrekRight. Good GPS mapping so when I was unsure wether Id missed a turn I could check. Also Wise Pilgrim Guide is an alternative app with GPS mapping. And downloading Brierleys guide...
Have used gps on the wise pilgrim app and also the TrekRight app for reassurance when occasionally unsure on the Camino Frances. Also the list of accommodations was useful for planning stages and booking ahead as I went.
