Enjoyed Betanzos so much I stayed two nights. Nice lunch specials and pintxos. About 1/2 mile before you enter the city walls - as you descend down the hill - there is a wonderful church and green space (on your right). Sat there for some meditation.
Some clueless responses in here. "Geez, I could do it. Why couldn't you?" You must be great dinner conversation.
Hope the Ingles is not too muddy for you.
Please give guestimates about the EARLIEST date /week you hikers have been able to safely walk the Norte. I expect the mud and a lack of services, BUT - - any ideas on when the best starting date from Santander would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and peace
Brierly was fine in October 2017. I spent an extra day in both Pontedueme and Betanzos just to enjoy the food and conversation. No problem finding beds on the CI.
The Ingles in mid-October. There were a couple days I did not see anyone else during the walking portion of my day. It was nice to get to town (e.g. Betanzos) for a bed, glass of wine and food.
Parts were muddy, and there were wild boar hunters, but beautiful temps and tranquility.
His guide for the Ingles was much appreciated. But it is a much more relaxed hike.
People complain more (beds, hiking sticks, guidebooks, . . ..) when walking the crowded caminos.
