    The dreaded descent into Zubiri

Ask your host at your albergue/hotel to arrange a taxi for you.

    Breakfast

Common situation. Especially in the heat. Many people are gone by 7 AM but yet breakfast may not be served until 7 AM. Everyone has their own way of dealing with this depending on their needs/ wants. My number one need is morning coffee. Usually there is at least a coffee machine. If not, I have...

    Molinaseca. O Cebreiro, Samos

I have tried twice to go to the Templar castle in Ponferrada, both time on days it was not open. So I would recommend going to the castle, which you should be able to see in 1 hour. I don't recall wanting to be there for any other reason. I took the Samos detour and was so happy I did. In fact...

    Friday is Upon Us!

So eat early if you are in Spain. I was in a restaurant, In Assisi, years ago when Italy was playing. Service came to a near total halt!!! Luckily we had already been served our food!! But refills on drinks was impossible and getting the bill to pay took about an hour!!!

Last minute advice for solo traveler

Download google translate--a free App. I used it about 12-15 times on my Porto to Santiago Camino this April.

From just before Burgos - 47 friggin kms to find a bed!!!

If it's by about 1 PM on a weekend that is also a holiday. Otherwise, a hostel or albergue not on booking.com and not on some of the hiking apps, is likely the only chance of finding a bed. At least that was my experience last May, in Pamplona, on a Saturday, during a festival.

Beds in First Stage Albergues - Current Situation, late May 2024

I agree. It varies day to day. I did the Frances late May of last year, and despite having a reservation, the Roncesvalle albergue was so overwhelmed that we had to wait 1 hour, 45 min in a queue, to sign in. That night, according to the albergue, all hotel beds were also full. and all beds...

    Reverse daily luggage transfer

I have done the Camino Frances (in parts of 40-60 %) four times. I just did the Camino Portuguese and wish I had done it sooner!! I loved it. On days that I gave my back a rest, I used Top Santiago and they were even better than what I used on the Camino Frances.

Rethinking my CF-ish route after Burgos (and I start in 7 days!)

I'm only here to address arriving in Burgos on Easter weekend. I absolutely love Burgos. Be sure to take the option to walk through the park as you get close to Burgos. But I think being in Burgos would rob you of the beauty and enjoyment because of the throngs of people being there. Burgos...

    Must see or favorite sites

Definitely see as much as you can before (or after) you start your walk.

    Walking during Semana Santa 2024

He could stay at Jesus y Maria albergue one night, then elsewhere another night if money is tight or if he wants to experience this albergue (I love Jesus y Maria).

    Albergues at SJPP

I would also recommend, during the busy season, in Pamplona on the weekends, either arriving at the municipals by 1:00 PM, or have a reservation. This year, in late May, on either Fri or Sat, Jesus y Maria was filled by 2PM. There were a lot of pilgrims arriving after 2 PM who were online and on...

Returning to CF after 6 years, anything new I must take into account?

I walked late May thru early Pamplona. It will be very very hot so start early--no later than 7AM, especially if heat adversely affects your exercise tolerance

    First time

If it is 10 days total, and especially if you have to travel far/overnight, I would suggest: Day 1--travel to Madrid (if from the US, it would likely be overnight) Day 2--travel to Sarria Days 3,4,5,6,7,8--walk from Sarria to Santiago (if you are really strong walkers, you may be able to do it...

    How many days

    1. How old are you 2. Are you in good shape 3. About how many miles a day do you think you will be able to walk in mixed terrain ( flat areas and some hilly areas). 4. Without more input from you, anything would be a guess 5. You also need to advise if heat adversely affects your strength

LIVE from the Camino FRANCÉS: Flies, spiders, isolation & roommates: not what I expected!

I felt lonely for the first 3-5 days of the two caminos that I walked alone. On one trip I hooked up with an Aussie, and we are still friends. On the other trip I took alone, there were a few women that that I would walk with. I actually realized that I met more friends when I started alone (on...

    Sketching along the way

I've looked at all of the sketches posted here. They are fantastic.

    I'm looking for someone

I don't know if it's OK to post this, but here goes. I'm looking for a woman from New Zealand named Tracy. She is traveling with Steve and Barry. She and I have the same medical condition, and have never met another person with the same problem. I had hoped to run into her on the trail again...
