    Am I packing too much?

No matter what you pack there will come a time while you are walking that you will know you packed too much. That being said, the only questionable item from my point of view is the sleeping bag. Sleeping sheet could replace or perhaps it is a very light summer bag.

Using a larger Backpack, just not filling it up. Thoughts?

People have a tendency to keep filling. With very limited space in your pack you have a built in editing system.

Suggestion: Leave the Windows Open when Departing a Private Room

I think the best articulated posting dealing with health and also allows for the proprietors and their staff to look after the place as they deem fit.

Suggestion: Leave the Windows Open when Departing a Private Room

I think a good position. Look after yourself and don't presume to look after others without their permission.

    Question about power banks

I found that when I did my pack reconsideration in Pamplona this was one of the items I sent home. I used maps on my phone but only at the end of the day as I was heading into the town, or on the very rare times I missed an arrow. The arrow system is excellent--particularly on the Frances.

Rideshare on the Francés? (Uber, Lyft, Cabify, Free Now, BlaBlaCar?)

Often at the major interections of the path the local taxi service posts their number.

Accomodation at Pasajes de San Juan

I totally agree with the last paragraph--it is a very tough 18kms with a very steep descent into Pasiaia.

    Gore tex shoes or boots?

They give me hot feet. On one long tropical walk I tore the lining out because my feet were so hot and damp. I find that when it is really wet your feet get wet anyway because the water wicks down your socks.

How do people 60-and-over plan their Camino?

We did our first Camino when I was 63. No planning other than giving ourselves 45 days to complete. In the end we did it in 37. We walked until we were tired and then chose an albergue. We were fortunate to have both the time and the funds to use this strategy.

    Vasque boots

    Love my Vasque hiking shoes

What do you have to take every Camino?

I take safety pins and a piece of chord to hang clothes. (has anyone mentioned comfortable footwear?)

    The CELL PHONE Pilgrims!

I understand the concern with the over use of cell phones and also worry that people are missing out on experiencing daily life and the world around them, but I ask myself if I would feel the same if someone where buried in a prayer book or even a guide rather than their phone. As long as they...

Best Mobile Phone SIM card and plan in Europe?

We used Orange for both Camino trips. Cheap with lots of data and refillable at most supermarkets and or Orange stores. Sim works in Spain, France, Portugal and England.

    From Blind "rescued Irish Walker"

Pilgrims used to need Templars to save them from bandits, so we can now count ourselves lucky that the fire department and other waiting responders come to our aid when we may have hurt ourselves. I would always choose the over-zealous rather than reticent to be responsible for saving me.

    Washing

I like the albergues that have the clothes spinner. Not only do these machines make the drying time shorter--they also get out a lot of the final dirt.

    Washing

We washed every day in order to keep the packs light. I included and used a very light cord to make my own clothesline and a package of twenty large safety pins to use as clips on the line. No wind could dump them on the ground or whisk them away.

    not quite on the camino

I would keep the large pot and use it for baking bread. I make sourdough and the dutch oven pot is fundamental to a good crust in a domestic oven.

Are Walking/Trekking Poles neccesary? Sleeping bag or Sleeping Bag liner

I would say yes to poles all year round. Particularly if you are over 50. Age aside, poles are great for mud, steep wet sections with rocks, frost and snow, as well as for pointing out at the yellow arrows to your comrades. Use rubber tips unless your are maneuvering rock or ice when you need...

    Why the hurry?

Don't judge and don't boast. Simple to say--hard to do.
