LIVE from the Camino Starting the Camino del Norte January 30th 2024

Well done pilgrim, well done. Thank you for your updates and photos and stories. You survived the ups and downs, the wind the rain, the long and short of it. Even an unfortunate dog bite. Congratulations! 🥳 Say hello to Santiago for me. Now, where to next? 😎👣🌻

    Camino del norte questions

The first time I used poles was on del Norte and I was grateful for them. I purchased them in Irun. One thing I hadn’t expected was the humidity. I walked in July so perhaps due to the heat the humidity was off the charts. 😅 I walked in 2019 so I’m unable to comment on how busy it is post...

Packing for the Norte vs Frances

I'm afraid so. 🫤 There were a few stages I didn't see anything open until much later. Sadly for me it was too late for a cafe con leche. The morning I left Portugalete just before sunrise I didnt stop until La Arena, three hours later for the most sought-after cafe con leche and spanish...

Packing for the Norte vs Frances

Will you be starting in Irun? The only difference I encountered weather wise is; it will be humid with a bit more precipitation in the beginning on del Norte. Heavy or sprinkles, when or where one just never knows. It rained quite a bit when I left Getaria making me abandon the alternative...

Packing for del Norte in June

Arizona, ah nice and dry. I'm from Idaho a dry heat, not so much on del Norte. LOL I wasn't expecting and don't see it mentioned here, the humidity. Boy howdy, it got me good. Everything was always moist. I had to constantly wipe my hands because they would get really sweaty holding my poles...

Advice needed with Camino del Norte route

Hello, 😁 I did del Norte at 56, solo female, from Irun to Laredo. It was tough and no joke but I managed. If I had a partner to help me navigate and motivate me when times got tough I probably would have made it all the way to Santiago. Deba to Markina was the toughest day, it does go up, up, up...

How physically demanding is first week of Camino Del Norte?

HUMIDITY --- oh the humanity, so much humidity. 😅 July 2019 for me from Irun to Santander solo, mid 50's. I echo a lot of comments here when they say it is --- Up into the mountains -- down out to the sea --- sleep, repeat. You've done the Frances you can surely do 7 days on del Norte. For me...

    Camino Del Norte or Frances?

I've done both and for me del Norte was more costly only because I had to take more rest days. I wasn't expecting the terrain to be such a challenge. Go up a mountain, then down to the sea, go up a mountain, then down to the sea. It was beautiful, humid and quiet. I did feel I was treated more...

    Expensive Accommodations!

Yes, del Norte can be spendy. I walked pre pandemic in July 2019 and it swallowed up much of my budget on accomidations. After several weeks I switched to the Frances for various reasons, budget being one of them. Buen Camino!

Norte or Frances in September? (For a woman, given fewer pilgrims in 2021)

...mid 50's) two Camino Frances (CF) with del Norte being my third. Here are the differences between the Norte and the Frances, in my experiences. * The CF caters more towards pilgrims, the Norte towards tourists. My cost was less on the CF. * It's easier to become part of a Camino family, tag...

That’s your opinion and I’m glad you enjoyed it. Also glad you had someone with you to help figure things out. I beg to differ though ... the blue line on the wise pilgrim app had its faults from time to time. 😎👣 I’m enjoying the Frances now and so grateful to be here.

Thank you! 😊 My first morning back on the Frances was spectacular. I cried tears of joy. Lamentations 3:22-23 (GNT) 22 The Lord's unfailing love and mercy still continue, 23 Fresh as the morning, as sure as the sunrise. 😌🙏🏻❤️ Even the Sunflowers give thanks for a new day. God Bless us...
