    Snake identification

In the extraordinarily unlikely case of snake bite: immobilize victim and body part; bandage tightly from bitten area to torso and from torso to bitten area; get medical assistance as soon as possible. Chances of full recovery are very, very high. This is more than can be said for being bitten...

    Snake identification

We have a lot of snakes in Australia, and one simple rule: if you see a snake, leave it alone.

    Ruta do Mar (August 2024)

They stayed in hotels mainly, but I don’t think they were cheap.

    Ruta do Mar (August 2024)

I haven’t walked it but friends who have tell me it is very lonely, challenging and no albergues, but very beautiful. Good luck.

    Low fee ATMs. Where

Agreed, but nor do I expect my barber to charge €50 or the equivalent for giving me an all over number 1. €7 for an ATM withdrawal. I think that is excessive.

I may have broken my leg! Pls help in Pontevedra!!!

Go, or get taken by taxi, to the nearest Centro de Salud. If they can’t help you they will arrange for you to be taken to someone who can, probably an ambulance. The Spanish health system is excellent from my experience.

Camino Catalán from Montserrat through Huesca

Taxis are quoting €40, so we have decided the road is the best option. It adds a few kms but will be easy walking, probably quicker and still a 25 k day max. We’ll let you know how you get on. Ena albergue is a little gem, by the way.

    Plastic Storage Bins in Santiago???

That can happen, but I’ve had a backpack classed as oversized in a large drysac. Didn’t cause any delay fortunately. Large bag is definitely an option.

Camino Catalán from Montserrat through Huesca

This thread has been revived, which is a good thing. We are currently in Ena and wondering how you get down to Santa Cilia without having to negotiate the path between the Monasterio Viejo and Santa Cruz de Seros e.g. bus or taxi options. All suggestions welcome. It’s been a fabulous Camino, by...

    Plastic Storage Bins in Santiago???

The so-called China stores sell this kind of thing. They are everywhere and seem to sell everything, especially if it is made of plastic. Ask in your hotel, they’ll point you to the nearest one.

New Day By Day Baggage Transport on Via Francigena

Can we all from here on address our responses to the original question? Thank you.

    Pilgrim.es

That’s a year away. If cost is a concern that is ample time to research, plan and book without resorting to an expensive trip organizer.

    Pilgrim.es

When do you plan on going? If it is far enough in the future you could save a lot of money by making the bookings online. It would take time and energy but DIY might be the way to go.

New Day By Day Baggage Transport on Via Francigena

That’s very unsympathetic as well as being lecturing. If someone gets injured on Camino, bag transfer is a useful option, as are public transport and giving up. Carrying ‘only what you need’ when you have a back injury would be silly.

From just before Burgos - 47 friggin kms to find a bed!!!

That last is an unnecessary and thoughtless remark. The ‘authorities’ do a pretty good job. It isn’t their fault if the private sector doesn’t come up to scratch.

How do I get to Loarre Castle?

I am now in a position to answer my own question and have photos to prove it. We set off from Bolea at 6.30 and followed the arrows along a farm track, up and down but nothing too strenuous. After about 7kms there was a signpost pointing up the hill saying Castillo de Loarre, 5.2 kms. You could...

Which apps for family to track me

Getting lost on the Francés is extremely unlikely, practically impossible even without a GPS.

    Everybody snores.

Re: Galego and Spanish on the Camino Frances

Galego is not a mixture of Castilian and Portuguese any more than Catalan is a mixture of Castilian and French. It could even be argued that Castilian and Portuguese are derivatives of Galego. But that won’t win you any friends.

    Pork in Spain

this is a pig farm. It is the kind of place most pork and ham in Spain comes from. I saw dozens of these places today and there must be thousands all over Spain. Walking about 5000km of Camino I must have a few hundred but only 3 or 4 times have I seen free range pigs. I am not a vegetarian, but...
