    Try something new?

I stay at the ones I know I love or that fit me best again. Others where my experience was "meh", I skip.

    The king’s breadmaker

He'd probably been up for hours already making bread!

Two pilgrims injured in an attack by a cow

Yes, this makes more sense now.

    The king’s breadmaker

The bakers Susanna and Chuchi in Grañón gave us a huge paper flour sack ( the kind they buy bulk flour in, and told us to always store the bread in it. The same at Arrés, the baker at Puente la Reina de Jaca told us to store the bread in the paper flour sack and offered us one for the albergue...

    The Camino will provide?

I have given another pilgrim money for a bed and supper more than once. I did it knowing I might never see the money again. When I give like that, I understand that once the money leaves my hands, I have no controll on what the other person does with it. One pilgrim got to Orrison thinking he...

    The Camino will provide?

I agree and disagree. I wouldnt expect someone to bring me a lost item, but I think it does happen that people are reunited with lost things from time to time due to the kindness of strangers (even in everyday life). I think people post queries here to get the collective mind and wisdom on how...

    Route planning- Help!

Do you need to end in Santiago? If you don't, just start somewhere easy to get to from Barcelona and start walking. Travel will eat into the pilgrimage if you travel to Madrid and back and you will want to be somewhere easily accessible to Madrid of you plan to go to a concert. That's more...

Two pilgrims injured in an attack by a cow

Not many details provided here as to the circumstances. Our cattle usually only did this if provoked such as territory or calves threatened. Certainly they are large mammals and can inflict serious injury and deserve respect.

Buying shoes on a Sunday. Are sports stores open?

That's great! I would go for a long walk with your pack on to be certain.

How to use the search function?

Sometimes we encourage newer members to "use the search function" for a topic that has had many conversations such as bed bugs, shoes, socks, poncho vs raincoat, hiking piles, to book or not to book, bag transport, etc. But the search function isn't all that helpful and mainly people just want...

Is Madrid Chamartín Station Open at Night?

Well no, didn't get back on time, one officer, one NCO, and one civilian, but only the NCO was disciplined and she was put on a detail to supervise flag raising each day at dawn for a month.

Is Madrid Chamartín Station Open at Night?

I slept on the floor with 2 other nurses in Stansted 20+ years ago after a crazy story about missing a flight at Bornemouth and taking a bus to London and a cab to 2 airports trying to get back to Germany so we could be on duty the next day at the US hospital and not AWOL. Used some UK wool...

    Social anxiety on the camimo

I think there is room to be with people or not. Do what feels best for you.

    Towels

Have used several "camp towels " and most just smear the water around on me. I do like a plain muslin or cotton t-towel. Also just a plain old hand towel that I bought at an Asian store in Spain worked fine for me last winter. I don't buy a large towel as don't want to carry it.

How much cash to take for cash-only Camino purchases

I keep track of each cost either in a notebook and/ or my phone as I go. If I am tapping away with my card, I am more likely to forget so I always take the receipt (even at home). Yes, I do use my card at home and for plane tickets and I get points which I use to pay for hotels in Spain. What I...

Is Madrid Chamartín Station Open at Night?

Also a lot of construction going on at Chamartín right now.

How much cash to take for cash-only Camino purchases

Yes, but after the fact, you have already spent the money. How do you keep yourself on the budget while traveling or is that not a concern? edit: ok, I still shop with coupons, too, so I am pretty thrifty...

Is Madrid Chamartín Station Open at Night?

There are fewer in inexpensive hostels and hotels near Chamartin. I prefer to stay out by the airport and then go back to the airport and take the C1 or C10 to Chamartin in the morning. (I stay on Marriott points so usually don't have to pay.) There are quite a few more economical hostels near...

How much cash to take for cash-only Camino purchases

Yes, they are there... All the Xunta albergues last year did go up from 8 to 10 euros though. Cash only. Najera- 6 euros cash only. All the other donativos...cash only. You do pay for the convenience of the use of your cards. For me, much easier to keep track of what I am spending (or not...
