This just adds up to the weight of your pack. If you intend to eat in bars, no need for utensils. Water bottle (or Camelback) is essential though. It would be nice to have a 'waiter' Swiss knife for the wine and canned goods if you're buying from the tiendas along the way.

Scary! It's a good thing the uphill climbs along the camino are plain ancient footpaths still, not escalators (like some places in Hong Kong).
In my case bringing a small MP3 (512 MB) player enhanced my Camino. Standing up there on a mountaintop listening to Morten Lauridsen's choral motet O Magnum Mysterium ('O Great Mystery') was an experience of a lifetime, if only for a few minutes.
Just goes to show everyone's camino...
Kbolynne,
It may be a good idea to bring a sleeping pad if your backpack weighs only 7.5 kg. But remember that you will also be carrying a liter or two of water, so that's an additional 1 to 2 kilos.

Hi JaneB,
I interpret this as 30L, expandable by 6L more, right? Size seems ok. It's the stuff that you stuff in it that could break your back so you're only halfway there. Start weighing your gear. Good luck. ;-)

Hi Shell,
The question is: do you feel comfortable in them? Even if it is new it shouldn't cause you too much injury.
If you're one of the folks who carry a really light backpack, you may opt to use sandals as you are walking in summer, probably not too much need for boots.

Ray Bertoia and his wife, who have DVD's of their camino available for those interested, did use a handcart, though they encountered several equipment problems on the way.

I prefer zip-off pants. If it's cold in the morning as I set off, it's pants with jacket. As the day goes on, the pant legs come off, the jacket gets stashed in the rucksack.
Depends on the season really. Probably more 'shorts' people in the summer.

If you're into photography, you can take a picture of yourself without being dependent on other pilgrim's photography skills.

I beg to disagree that those headlamps are the least disturbing. In fact, I was awakened many times by lights dancing around the room like it was a disco with crunching plastic bags as the music.
I had one of those Petzl things too, did't weigh more than 100 grams with the batteries if I...
bibtracker,
A lot of pilgrims wear polyester shirts, sometimes called technical shirts. Among other benefits such as wicking away sweat and drying faster, they don't need to be ironed. No need for a lint remover either!

Buena,
You can wash your clothes without a sink plug. It's a matter of technique. First you wet all the items under the tap, remove all the mud, then add your detergent and create lather (you don't need standing water for that). Then rinse. There are 'lavaderos' in most albergues. In...
Hola buena!
Consider a light water bottle instead of a camel pack. Easier to fill up and monitor the water level. Unless you plan on buying mineral water along the way.
The flashlight, whistle and duct tape I think you can afford to leave home. You already have sports tape. I'd suggest...
