It was the best hard boiled egg I ever ate. It was the best cheese I ever had. You can actually see this fellow on YouTube in a French documentary... I discovered it this week. OMG. A great experience. Check it out -
at minute 12:21. You'll see the man. Yes, he told me the cheese was from...
Stop at Orisson, enjoy the great hospitality and comaraderie, and meet many of the people you met at Orisson all along the way. Also - doing SJPP to Roncesvalles in one day is a killer - in my opinion. I am glad I didn't rush it, and took my time stopping at Orisson. Yes, I met many people...
I used ViewRange App on my phone. Worked GREAT. Uses GPS only while walking, no need for Wifi and minimal battery usage. See my website for the results of how it looks. Each night I would upload my track - synch it using wifi at the albergue or a bar. When you post pictures on Flickr these...
Agreed. In fact my dermatologist told me to use only vaseline to keep a wound clean. And in fact I did this at home with a cut and it was perfect and healed nicely without a scar.
On the Camino, however, I was scared, to be honest, and panicked so bought antibiotic ointment at a pharmacy and...
I ended up using an inexpensive plastic poncho and it worked fine over my small pack. The main consideration was keeping the boots and sock dry and I used the Frogg Toggs rainpants they worked well too. I would get lightweight waterproof gaiters next time, though, and skip the rain pants...
Hi Charles!!
Glad you are doing well. I enjoyed hanging out with you and Charlie back in Orrison. I like reading your posts from the Camino!
Buen Camino!

First, agreed. Putting thread in a popped blister is suicide. S Yates writes about this in her book. Super fast way to get an infection.
May I humbly weigh in on this topic? I did get a slight blister- small on the side of my heel. I looked up on the internet medical sites and they say do not...

Hold the button down and you have white, and you have flashing. Holding the button down controls the mode. I also have a headlamp by Petzl. If yours takes the "Core" adapter, you could also dispense with batteries and recharge it using your same cell phone charger. You will like using...

In USA you can get travel insurance which covers medical from AAA. I paid about $100.- for full coverage of any medical emergency, and they give you a nice certificate from Allianz (the carrier).
I hope this helps.
Buen Camino-

I have a couple of Swiss Army knives, different versions, at home, but for the El Camino I knew I could not carry it on board the airline (I did not check my luggage). So on arrival in St. Jean, I bought a nice simple one, an apple blade, a bottle opener/can opener, and a...
Hi Natasha -
A) You don't need one. B) I saw one lying next to a trash bin along the way. If you stay in an albergue or pensione they have a bed. In albergues they pretty much give you a clean disposable sheet and pillowcase. I saw a number of people carrying sleeping pads, and I knew this...
Okay, thanks. I was just about to measure the amount of dental floss I'll need by weighing a yard of if, then calculating the gram loss in my dental floss dispenser over a period of two weeks, then averaging. You've saved me the agony (and the fun, I suppose). Thanks. I'll stop obsessing.
