Time of past OR future Camino
I plan to hike the CF in July/August of 2017!
Hi,
I heard that many people just get rid of items as their packs are too heavy. Do you think it's possible for me to find a sleeping pad/mat in a free bin at an albergue?

Guides that will let you complete the journey your way.
Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

Absolutely! Most likely already in Roncesvalles ;-) But ask yourself - if so many people leave them behind - why do I want/need one? Buen Camino, SY

Hi - just curious about why you are asking. Do you think you need one on the Camino? If you can share your thinking/planning a little more maybe there are some who can help fill in some blanks you may have!

In 2015 Roncesvalles could have opened a sleeping mat shop with all the mats that had been abandoned!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

Yes, we found an extra one that way. :)

The only time we brought a sleeping mat was walking out from Sevilla on Via de la Plata. The three of us shared it for naps under oak trees, and were glad to have it, because then we didn't have to feel the acorns poking into our backs.

On later walks, we've managed without, usually by sweeping the acorns aside.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Inside albergues, they are unnecessary. If you use a tent at all, then they are handy.

Hi Natasha -
A) You don't need one. B) I saw one lying next to a trash bin along the way. If you stay in an albergue or pensione they have a bed. In albergues they pretty much give you a clean disposable sheet and pillowcase. I saw a number of people carrying sleeping pads, and I knew this was just extra weight. I'm sure you'll find a free one along the way if for some reason you prefer to use one.
Buen Camino!
Mike
