Five years ago I flew to Bilbao, bus from airport to Bilbao bus terminal, stayed at a hotel close to bus terminal, next morning a bus to Bayonne, then bus (train line was being repaired) to SJPdP.
I average 32-38 km per day, some days are short especially when arriving in Pamplona, Burgos and Leon where I like to spend a full day. Some days are over 40 km. It all depends on how I feel. Be interested to know. Who has walked 50 Km?
I've only walked the Frances (x5). The last 2 years I've planned the Portuguese only to change my mind at the last minute and do the Frances again, in 3 weeks time I'm supposed to do the Portuguese but I'm still being drawn to the Frances.
Start in SJPDP, walk 3 days to Pamplona, take the train to Leon (Dep13:17 Arr17:21, Tourist fare 20euros approx.), then walk to Santiago. Good luck in what you decide to do.
