I’m an Osprey guy & have numerous packs from them. My fav line of theirs is the Talon(Tempest for women) series. They have 22, 26, 30, 33 & 36L versions that don’t have a frame. Their largest pack the 44 does. But the others don’t. Super light & comfy, yet fully featured packs. I love them for...
Maybe it’s because I grew up on the beach, but I’ve always felt like shoes were prisons for the feet… so I avoid wearing them whenever I can if the weather is warm enough. I love hiking in my Teva Sandals. They have a thick sole that is great for hiking & super comfy. And in a warm summer rain...
I’m an Osprey guy and the Talon is my favorite backpack line of theirs. I have the 22, 33 & 44. I use the 22 on short walks & bike rides. The 33 on long Summer walks & the 44 on long Winter walks. Osprey also just came out with a few more sizes…the 20, 26, 30 & 36! Talk about choices! You can’t...
I would say that if anyone is sleeping in a crowded hostel or albergue... they have to expect ...and accept all sorts of noises and unpleasant sounds emanating from their fellow pilgrims. Thats just the way it is. If you are going to sleep in an albergue, ear plugs are a pilgrim’s best friends...
Yeah, the Talon is pretty sweet pack. It’s a pretty light but comfortable pack. Perfect for the Camino i think. i believe trekking poles are checked luggage only. There may be an acception if they are for mobility purposes & not recreational. But i am not sure. You’d have to check with the...
I have a collection of Osprey backpacks. An Atmos 65, Stratos 50, Talon 44, Exos 38, & Talon 33. Lol. Yes. It’s a sickness. My girlfriend calls it Backpackitis. I would take any one of the above packs on the Camino. Although probably not the Atmos 65. Even tho I am a big guy(6’4” 230lbs) it is a...
When i bike, i use a bladder, because i dont fill my back pack with gear when i bike. But when i hike, my pack is full of gear so it gets crowded to squeeze a bladder in, making it hard to get in & out. So when i hike, i use water bottles. But to be honest, i do prefer hydration bladders.
You didn’t mention which Osprey you tried on. I am curious. Diff style packs from the same company will fit differently. I ask, because I am an Osprey guy. I own the Osprey Talon 22, 33 & 44. Which are my fav packs of theirs. I use the 22 around town or when i am biking. The 33 for quick...
*** I did just hear that Osprey is coming out with a more backpack friendly version of the Farpoint called the Farpoint Trek in the Fall of 2019. It will have a more comfortable suspension system for long treks, but with the same travel pack features of the regular Farpoint like a suitcase style...
Which 36 liter pack? The kestrel? Or the Stratos? My 50L Osprey stratos is actually shorter than my 38L exos! And i never had an issue bringing it as carry on. Depends on the pack sometimes
You might be able to bring both packs as carry on. The 25L as your personal item & the other as your main carry on. Oh wait...forgot about the trekking poles. Scratch that idea. Lol.
...abroad...and it is not as comfortable for that as a dedicated backpack is. Especially for the Camino. Although i know many have used it for that.

I’m curious, what brand are the two backpacks by the way? You said 32L & 44L. I only ask cause sometimes sizes can be odd. For instance, i have an Osprey Stratos 50L that is a lot shorter height wise than my osprey Talon 44 or even my Exos 38. It’s weird. I’ve never had a problem getting any of...
Not necessarily. I remember before 9/11 people used to bring 100L packs on as carry on! Times have changed. But still, liter size can be totally deceiving. I have a 50L pack that is shorter than my 38L pack and that has been my go to carry on. It all depends.
I prefer carry on only. Nothing better than getting on & off the plane without having to wait around the baggage carosel with all the other jet lagged zombies.
Going by Liter size alone however is misleading. My Stratos 50L is so much shorter than my Talon 44L or even my Exos 38L. I have never...
I wear cargo pants, so this is never a problem, but to the OP, i would say if your phone doesnt fit in your backpack hipbelt pockets, the next best solution would be attaching it to your shoulder strap. There are many pockets/cases on the market that can hold your iphone while it’s attached to...
I’m an osprey guy. I have a Talon 33 & 44 and the Stratos 34 & 50. I love the Talons for when i wanna go light and the Stratos when i want a more cushy carry. The Talons are really great, light weight minimal packs but with plenty of pockets. The Stratos packs have thicker padding and a...
I could see the argument for rain or waterproof pants in very cold/wet/snowy conditions. Again, for me personally (one who doesn’t do much winter hiking), i don’t see the need. But for others who get cold easily, even in the Summer, it just may make the difference in wether they enjoy a long...
I guess it’s a personal thing, but in all my years of hiking & traveling, i’ve never used a pair of waterproof pants. My go to hiking pants are the Columbia SIlver ridge zip off cargo pants. They’re so versatile. Not only do they turn into shorts when needed saving space in my backpack...they...
