David,
I too have a pacemaker and was diagnosed with Bradycardia.
This past winter, after testing several backpacks on long multi-day hikes, I found that the most comfortable for me was not the lightest, but the one the fit me best and transferred the weight off my shoulders and onto my hips...
If you are looking for a solid pack in the 35-40 litre range, something you may end up passing down to your grand kids (yes they are that well built), you may want to consider Fjallraven Kaipak 38. That's the pack I'll be using on the Frances in April. There are lighter packs, but you'd be hard...
@sandraessex I sent you a PM, but just saw this message. If I can, allow me to chime in with some recommendations.
You want a light pack, but more importantly, you want something that will be comfortable. Head down to a local specialty sport shop that specializes in hiking. They generally have...
11 years ago I travelled throughout central and South America for 9 months by motorcycle. I’m fluent in English and French. However, even with formal Spanish speaking night classes prior to the trip, not much would sink in. I blame advancing age. I did grasp some basics, and even with the wide...
I don’t personally know. You might want to book a later train if this is a concern for you.
However, when I made a similar enquiry on this Forum, a pilgrim suggested I have the Express Bouricott Shuttle van meet me in Bayonne “and take a nice, relaxing, and pretty 40 minute drive to SJPdP.”...
I’m so sorry to read about your loss. I hope you find everything you require on the Camino and I wish you peace. I look forward to meeting you on your journey.
Buen Camino.
Congratulations Johnny. What an amazing goal you have set for yourself. I’m sure I’m not alone in wishing you all the best and offer you our support for your journey. I, and perhaps others as well, would love to somehow follow your journey. Will you be posting your progress somewhere online? I’d...
From the reports I’ve come across, pilgrims on the Camino are said to be very helpful, generous, and look out for each other. I’m sure we’ll all be ok. It will be wise not to push too much in the initial stages. Our bodies and our minds will require some time to adjust.
My experience is that with any type of adventure and travel of this type, it’s important to remain flexible and limit one’s expectations. As it will be the first day back on my feet after long flights and getting to SJPdP, I had thought of not pushing myself too hard on the first day. However...
I did the same and also found it odd that there was no place to indicate the date I wanted to book. I have yet to receive anything by email from them though, so you are a step or two ahead of me.
As I see it, the advantages of bringing a battery bank/power pack is you can leave it to charge. If it walks away, it’s much cheaper to replace than an expensive phone or other piece of electronic gear. It‘s also likely to be less prone to being damaged. Once charged up, a battery bank can then...
I’m planning to walk the Camino Frances starting at SJPdP in April. I was planning to start on April 1 until I realized Easter and Semana Santa this year is early. So decided to push it back a couple of weeks and fly out (from Canada) on Easter Monday (April 13) as I’d like to avoid overly...
Another option is that you can fly into Biarritz - Bayonne Airport (BIQ). This airport handles both international and domestic flights.
Another airport is San Sebastián Airport (EAS), which is 37 km from Bayonne, France if my research is correct.
Hope this helps.
YMMV
Robert
I've found Google Flights » https://www.google.com/flights » to be one of the better research tools. It offers easier reseach to different cities to fly in and out of, and to see if there are cheaper nearby dates. The system allows checking prices for one way, return flights, and multiple...
I just watched this instructional video, entitled 'How to Correctly Lace Walking Boots'. There are lots of good points in this, including how to prevent blacktoe. I have no affiliation. Hope this helps some of you.
