    Compostela: Electric Bikes Excluded?

No. Certainly not in Europe - even in the English-speaking parts. Sounding a bell is commonplace. Both seem to imply that the pedestrian should make way for the cyclist, which is neither a safe assumption or (at least in the UK) the order of precedence.

    Plastic Storage Bins in Santiago???

Dick is correct: a China store will have one - although quality isn’t always the best. A rigid plastic box may be less suitable for the baggage handling process than a sturdy fabric bag would be.

Best way to get from Madrid to Leon, early?

Have a look at a Monday within the next couple of weeks as a guide. The timetables change very infrequently other than for engineering works.

Are passport copies accepted at albergues?

    A copy is not accepted.

Advice sought for wounds on feet from walking

That’s not a DIY fix Diarmad. Health centre then - several days later - shoe shop. I hope you can continue.

    Too Many Qs! Credencial/sleeping bag/training/albergues

-very easy -depends on how warm you sleep. A liner or very light (one season) bag should be sufficient - Spanish very useful on the Ingles and always appreciated -four days- but I’m an active Walker. It’s not off road. Only two ascents worth mentioning, but not arduous. -the Ingles is getting...

Pacemaker Implant Surgery Tomorrow. A New Phase for Future Caminos.

    Good luck Dave; best wishes.

standard of living/quality of life in Spain

At a rough count I’d say at over half the posts drawing a contrast with the US are from US posters. That’s hardly surprising given the provenance of the Camino Forum community. Anyway - Spain was the topic wasn’t it?

    fleece garment for summer Camino

You’re probably going to be OK even with an early start and through the day; but you want something to layer up with in the evening. A light inexpensive fleece would be fine.

Leaving a small bag at Madrid airport

There is a Correos in T1 arrivals - but only open Spanish mornings 0830-1430

    Where to add a signature?

Ah, sorry - the APP. No idea.

    Where to add a signature?

It’s possible that you have to make five posts to do anything more adventurous than post! It’s an anti-spanner measure. Click on your avatar (photo) at the top - the option should be in the drop-down menu. If not reply back here two or three times then try again.

    Post Restante

Issues are unlikely, but possible. I just sent two identical packages in the UK to destinations ten miles apart. Both ‘tracked’. One arrived next day; a week later the second has vanished. If it’s important I’d personally arrange with my intended accommodation to receive it and I’d send it by...

Pilgrim found walking in wrong direction on AP-1 highway

On the basis of one unfortunate experience in fog on the summit of a munro in the 80’s, whenever I stop for a break I try to leave my walking poles pointing in the direction I’m intending to continue. The easiest wrong direction to head is 180 degrees off-course.

    Backpack size

Provided you’ve the self-discipline not to fill the bag, it doesn’t matter. The fit is all that’s important. I use an Osprey 35l and it’s about 75% full. I’d struggle to get a smaller sack with the back-length and height to fit me.

standard of living/quality of life in Spain

Are we allowed to say ‘bollocks’? We’ll see. The higher price is four times the price of the lower, or 300% more. The lower price is 25% of the higher or 75% less. Nothing can be more than 100% less than anything unless it’s negative. I’m assuming that somewhere up the thread someone was...

Has anyone used a Faraday bag for their tel or computer?

Unless you’re working for the CIA or on a witness-protection programme I think that’s overkill. It’s a step even beyond the ultra-con RFID wallets and card cases: a solution in search of a problem which doesn’t exist.. Use a VPN at all times; otherwise -no.

    Another Boring Kit Thread

You don’t need a headlamp in August. Three shirts and two pairs of boxers? I’d reverse that. Assume one pair of shoes is very lightweight?

standard of living/quality of life in Spain

I lived in Barcelona for a year back in the 90’s, visit Spain often - on and off the tourist track - and have longstanding Spanish friends. I speak fairly good Spanish, although my Catalan is rusty. It’s a mixed bag. Lots of local and regional autonomy, as in the US; but basically good public...

    Try something new?

Also: both. I have a few favourites but like trying new places. Also if I’ve met people I’d like to spend time with - or avoid - I like the flexibility.
