How to stay “logged in” on the forums

I think you’ve resolved it. I, and many others, just bookmark the ‘new posts’ screen and never need to log in.

Lost & Found Lost Pilgrim Credential at Iglesia de San Andrés de Cedeira just about 20-30 minutes outside Redondela

Just get anything you’ve got stamped and go from there. Affix whatever you’ve got to an actual credenciale whenever you get one.

    October Camino - shorts?

September through March camino - shorts. Skin dries faster than cloth and it’s Spain.

Tracking apps/findpenguins/Relive/ or just simple iphone/google maps

Mrs HtD is prone to monitoring my whereabouts whilst on Camino and it’s worth clarifying that all of these apps will give a precise location as to where your phone is but not - necessarily - where you are and thus the time you left c.Laurel, c.San Lorenzo, the barrio húmedo and so on and so...

    Alsa bus tickets

Well done. Good decision under pretty much any circumstances.

    Compostela: Electric Bikes Excluded?

May I be the first to add my weight to that most astute comment.

    Having something mailed to Santiago

You could sign up online for a Wise account which comes (by default) with a virtual debit card. You can fund it by direct bank transfer (or from your current debit card whilst it still works). There may be a fee with funding via debit card - but desperate times call for desperate measures. An...

    Alsa bus tickets

No. Unless you paid the trivial premium for a fully flexible / cancellable ticket - but hardly anyone does.

    Is the Camino too crowded?

Start a week later and enjoy the Camino as it was ten years ago.

I have now narrowed my book choice down to two.

I’d add a vote for A Furnace Full of God; clearly Rebekah knows how to write; and for a Camino themed book it would be a great contemporary choice.

I have now narrowed my book choice down to two.

I too love Fermors writing - never use one adjective where three will do - and I know (like Lee, Chatwin etc) that his recollection is somewhat exaggerated, but still .. I always pack a very dog-eared copy of Artemis Coopers selected Fermor passages ‘Words of Mercury’. I’ve probably got four or...

    Compostela: Electric Bikes Excluded?

My paternal grandfather had such a long-standing commercial relationship with the Fox and Grapes public house in the centre of Preston, Lancashire that a plaque was installed to his memory on his death and the brewery considered issuing a profit warning. If we are guided on here to regard even...

Translation app - when language fails us

DeepL is not so function-rich but does, IMHO give a ‘looser’ and more natural translation than Google. Still; Mrs HtD and I managed two weeks in the very rural north of Portugal 32 years ago (wedding anniversary yesterday, so I’m certain of the date) armed with only 100 words of Portugese...

    Night sweats?

If you are concerned it would be sensible to have a discussion with your regular doctor. You might explore the effects of multi-day exercise, changed diet or water or environmental factors? Unusually high concentrations of cruzcampo, quercetin and pimentón have a similar effect on me.

    Brierley Errors in Invierno Guide

When he was still with us JB replied directly to feedback such as this - one of the maps in an old CF guide had north and south transposed on the compass. It was not an issue as the map page was oriented logically and the route blindingly obvious. Still, being a pedant, I emailed him and had a...

USA to Madrid, Madrid to Cairo separate tickets

I agree with Molly - you’re not actually entering ‘Spain’ and should stay airside through transit provided that you’re already checked in for your second flight Personally I’d check that direct with Iberia. If it were a through-ticket it would be their problem that you make the connection; but...

    Compostela: Electric Bikes Excluded?

No. Certainly not in Europe - even in the English-speaking parts. Sounding a bell is commonplace. Both seem to imply that the pedestrian should make way for the cyclist, which is neither a safe assumption nor (at least in the UK) the order of precedence.

    Plastic Storage Bins in Santiago???

Dick is correct: a China store will have one - although quality isn’t always the best. A rigid plastic box may be less suitable for the baggage handling process than a sturdy fabric bag would be.

Best way to get from Madrid to Leon, early?

Have a look at a Monday within the next couple of weeks as a guide. The timetables change very infrequently other than for engineering works.

Are passport copies accepted at albergues?

    A copy is not accepted.
