    Be careful with phones.

The problem, as a link in a previous comment points out, is that phone thieves are now waiting to see someone using their phone and then they snatch it out of their hand so the phone is unlocked and they can have their way with it.

    Patagonia Cool Daily Hoody

I I was looking into this one but was concerned with the low spf rating and reviews saying wearers were sunburned when wearing it.

    Be careful with phones.

Android 15, coming out later this year, is set to have a bunch of new security features to combat some of the issues mentioned in that article including being able to detect when your phone is yanked out of your hand (and then lock it automatically)! It will also allow for hidden apps with...

    Patagonia Cool Daily Hoody

Thanks. I will be in REI next week and will give this one a good look over. Though with the annual REI anniversary sale going on I might just stick with the Sahara.

    Snoring. AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Sometimes I think 90% of this forum is just rehashing old issues with no resolution. lol.

    Snoring. AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

These.are great. I got them last year for the Norte and while I didn't come across many snorers I did find that when I did the noise blockers worked perfectly. I used the brown noise setting and it seemed to be just the right pitch to counter out snoring but not other things,.like alarms etc.

    Snoring. AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Nothing worse than seeing a well rested snorer in the morning after you have been up all night cursing them.

    Patagonia Cool Daily Hoody

Does anyone have experience with the Patagonia Cool Daily long sleeve hoody on the Camino? Last summer on the Norte I wore the REI Sahara long sleeve t-shirt and while I liked it I found it a bit heavy for summer and a bit stinky and slow drying. As I get ready for another summer Camino I am...

Start where we are or walk the extra distance to the edge of Irún?

I don't know that there is an official start point and if so, who chose it and why? I suspect as your journey on the Norte continues you will soon become frustrated with the official route and seek out the wonderful alternate routes that exist. However, if you think a month from now when you're...

Right quad pain, ok to push through or something to be worried about?

I wonder if this is related to your earlier shoe issues and the blisters on the side of your feet. Perhaps trying to avoid the blister pain led to you subconsciously change your walking gait which has stressed your muscles. That being said, I am not a doctor!

Options for cell service on Camino Norte

I always use Vodafone. It's very cheap and offers a lot of data. There are a few shops in San Sebastian. Make sure they bring their passports with them and that their phone is unlocked.

    Vertigo

That bridge was pretty terrifying though it is perfectly safe - guard rails etc. you're not going to fall off but it is still nerve wracking. The two aspects that made it tough for me was that the walking path was two way and had bicyclists. And the vehicle traffic speeding by you (a fence...

Norte Mountain Route - Soto to Cadevedo

I did it last July and it was great except for a few terrifying encounters with guard dogs. If the weather is bad I would skip it, it's very exposed on top.

Maybe a little late with my planning for le Puy...

While Lyon is a wonderful city you could also fly into Paris and spend a few nights there first (which is what I am doing; I look forward to shocking the Parisian fashionistas with my pilgrim attire) and then take the train to Le Puy from there (change in Lyon).

    Who's counting…

Totally late to this thread but I am certainly counting! 13 days to Paris, 15 days to Le Puy, 17 days till I start walking. And then hopefully Santiago,60-70 days later!

Surprised at our test results poncho vs jacket

Umbrellas are also great for the city after your walking day is done. I am a poncho wearer but I find them to be less practical walking to a restaurant or grocery store etc.

Message from the Roncesvalles albergue - a difficult day.

Also, you could walk to Oviedo and then decide there to continue on the Primitivo or walk back to the Norte (avoiding the Gijon - Aves) section. This will add a day but I found it worthwhile.

Message from the Roncesvalles albergue - a difficult day.

Might be too late for this, but I would start a stage or two before llanes. The section between La Franca and Llanes was some of my favorite, for sheer beauty, on the Norte. Note, this was on the alternate route that runs closer to the the coast than the official Camino route. I would encourage...

    Travel Insurance for Americans

Definitely better and cheaper than US healthcare but the evac insurance covers stuff like needing a helicopter to bring you to a hospital (some countries like NZ don't charge for this, even for tourists). And then getting you home if you aren't ambulatory and/or can't sit in a regular coach seat...

    Travel Insurance for Americans

I have been using SevenCorners for the past few years though I have never had to file a claim. Options available depend on the state you live in. My main priority for travel insurance is medical and evacuation coverage. I don't get the trip cancellation coverage etc. On the Seven Corners site...
