    Alternative to Pamplona for overnight

We stayed in Zabaldika last year, (highly recommend) which got us to Pamplona quite early in the day. Gave us time to tour the cathedral, walk around town, have lunch and then head to our pension that was on the far end of town. We had a dbl room with 2 single beds and shared bath, for 30€...

    Porto to Vila do Conde

My albergue, Lost Inn, was located directly below the cathedral. It was easy to walk out the door in the morning and be at the river in about 10 min. Walking along the river to the ocean at sunrise was great. There were so many birds. I really enjoyed the walk along the coast to Matosinhos and...

    Backpack transfer

That is why I used Top Santiago. You notify them each day about where you are going. You don't need to plan ahead for them. They notify you when your bag arrives.

    Credential in Burgos?

I got one at the cathedral in Burgos.

    Backpack transfer

I used Top Santiago most of the way. They were very easy to use and contact. Haven't heard of the company you mentioned.

    Ex Porto: A Beginners experience/learnings (May 2024)

If you get a poncho like the Altus, it unzips down the front, or you can let it hang from your back pack if you have one of those days where it rains off and on all day long. It slips back on easily. I had a sleeping bag at the municipal in Rates and still froze. It was just really cold there...

Beds in First Stage Albergues - Current Situation, late May 2024

I fail to understand why people are NOT booking those first few nights. They KNOW they will be stopping there. Why leave it to chance? Book the best place you know that suits your style. When I arrive at a town, I want the albergue making a communal meal rather than the municipal. I want the...

    Advice on skipping Porto urban.area

Walking out of Porto along the river to the ocean is not an urban walk. It is actually quite beautiful. Do it in the morning at sunrise. I really enjoyed this walk to Matosinhos. Not sure why people want to take the metro or bus for this part.

I may have broken my leg! Pls help in Pontevedra!!!

Relieved to hear that it wasn't a broken leg, but sad to hear you have to go home early. Many of us have had to do that. Broke my wrist in 2018 after just 11 days on the CF and had to fly home, but have walked 3 Caminos since then. You will be back.

    Albergues in Porto (early June)

It will take you longer than 30-60 min. to walk into an albergue after landing. It will take you that long just to get out of the airport. Then you have to get to the city. Yes, I would book a bed now. Take a look at what is on offer so you get the place you want, that suits you the best. I...

Need to buy day pack in Burgos

Wow, excuse me for trying to help you with some advice. I was not being presumptious. 100s of people ask this question on FB pages and have never thought about what that weight does to their shoulders with a day pack. Just ignore my advice then. Easy peasy.

Need to buy day pack in Burgos

Honestly, the best thing it to wear your back pack, with the hip belt and send on another bag with some of your stuff. That hip belt takes any weight in your pack off of your shoulders. Once you put your water, poncho, snacks, 1st aid, extra socks, into a day bag, it will drag down your...

Buying walking poles in Santiago or Muxia

Check out Ivar too. He has a decent collection of poles that folks have left behind.

Breaking Up the Walk from Porto to Vila do Conde

I stopped in Matosinhos overnight and then again in Vila Cha. I switched over to the central at Vila do Conde, but could have easily stopped early in the day here to sightsee and stay overnight. I think people miss a lot by taking the metro out of Porto instead of walking along the river to...

Advice for Sleeping Options and Other Advice for Inaugural Pilgrims

The cathedral in Leon sells pilgrim passes too.

Who is going to Viloria de Rioja? I forgot to donate in Albergue parada Viloria.

Hijacking the post a bit. I stayed here 2 years ago and had such a great time. Filmed her making the paella and she was so pleased. This is a great albergue to stay in for those who want a wonderful, communal dinner, or to break up the distances or stay in places not packed with pilgrims.

    Portuguese albergues

Vila Cha has a municipal as does La Bruge. Both are along the coast route.

Holed Up With a Nasty Cold

Have gotten horrid colds or a bad stomach virus on every Camino except the Portuguese Camino that I just finished on Friday. Add in the broken wrist that sent me home on one Camino and I longed for just one normal Camino! Got it this time, so maybe the sickness bad luck streak is finally...

    Bar etiquette

I return my cups and glasses in Frankfurt quite often, and I did it in Spain quite often too. Especially in the small places where only 1, maybe 2 people were working. Always got a Gracias in return. Is it needed? No, but just something nice to do.

    Break O’Cebreiro climb

My thighs hurt, but I would certainly ride again! Have never heard anyone say it hurt so bad they wouldn’t do it again.
