Thanks for following up! To be perfectly honest, I'm not exactly a convert. They're handy for steadying myself when I'm on a shale-y downslope but otherwise they're a bit of a pita to haul around. I will persevere but I wish I could see more of a benefit...
Wow - you guys are marvellous! So many great suggestions 👍
Thanks, @TMcA, for the coastal Brittany suggestion. Trouble is, I wouldn't want to stop after 2 weeks. That's one heck of a beautiful coast...
Just that, really. Husband and I will be in France from mid-May to the end of July. We have nearly 2 weeks in the middle that's not accounted for and would like to do a walk of about 150 km. The tough part is that we want to base ourselves somewhere and catch transport to where we left off the...
This is what I keep hoping. Honestly, I've been walking for 61 years. I never thought that adding poles would be like tapping my head with one hand while rubbing my tummy with the other.
Practice, practice...
OK, pole experts... I bought myself a pair of rather nice carbon fibre poles the other day to assist my aging knees on the hills. I watched a couple of youtube vids on pole length and "how to" and thought I had it sussed. Only to find that I strongly resembled the Monster in Young Frankenstein...
After reading all the highbrow music choices, I was afraid to mention my love for AC/DC, particularly the Bon Scott era. Now, if I can just find my little MP3 player...
I went down the rabbit hole of the post about ancient churches in different camino routes, and thought it would be great to be able to add notes on my planned route so that I don't miss anything as I'm walking. Do any of the apps (Komoot, Gaia, etc) have this feature? Or will I have to keep...
But that's the point - the hotel didn't overbook. Booking.com continued to send them bookings even though the hotel indicated they were full. I'll be booking directly from now on.
Hardly! We booked a hotel in Paris through booking.com only to be told on arrival that they were completely full and booking.com was continuing to send them guests (much to the hotel's displeasure). If we'd called them directly, we could have avoided a wasted trip.
This works for easily replaceable things, but I was thinking of buying Pacer poles while I'm in the UK. If the cost of flying them is as much as they're worth, I'll have to pick up a cheaper option in Spain.
For this of you who suggested packing scissors, poles, etc in a small bag for the hold - what can I expect the airline to charge for this? Hold baggage from Canada to Europe can be $100 with a budget airline. Obviously,it would be cheaper to buy new scissors in Spain.
