Also an introvert, have walked SJPdP to Santiago starting late May, and Burgos to Muxia starting late August. Except for a few days on each, I walked alone as per my preference. Do not worry, over 800km you will have no problem finding solitude. I did enjoy sereptitiously running into someone...
As a self-professed "solo newbie", referring to the magical Meseta as a "slog", it means you heard that from someone else. On my first Camino, I ran into several people who planned to skip it because they HEARD it was boring. Likely from others who had never done it themselves because they too...
If you look at the albergue on the gronze.com site, you will not only see photos, but read many detailed opinions from fellow pilgrims who have stayed there. I am not sure how requesting detailed information from fellow pilgrims who happen to be on the forum is more valuable?
Walked SJPdP to Santiago May/June 2018. Never booked . And again Burgos to Santiago and onward this late Aug/Sept. I never booked. All I read on this forum was how crowded and impossible it was, and to go home. But again, I never booked, found the most lovely albergues at 25-50% capacity...
I stayed here this September. I feel privileged I got the chance while you still owned it, Arturo. What a wonderful welcome you gave me. I wish you joy in whatever comes next for you.
I just walked Burgos to Santiago starting August 25. So I was ahead of the September wave. Relative to my late May walk SJPdP to SdC in 2018, it was dead out there. Often saw only 4-8 pilgrims during my day's walk. Albergues with capacity of 36 or 50 beds had only 5 or 6 people. It picked up...
I’m not sure why, but there’s a little voice in my head whispering, “See? You can’t do this. You were never going to make it to the end.” Hopefully this is temporary, a product of me being tired and hurting. I’m just feeling a bit rattled.
Tell that little b#&%@ to piss off! I often hear of...
I was in Sarria about a week ago. Stayed in a private albergue with 20 beds-4 people only. A friend stayed in another private albergue there the same day with 28 beds--4 people in that one too. The path out of Sarria was packed with hoards of shouting groups, blaring music. But by the first...
A credential belonging to Andrea ... from Ireland was left in the church in Hontanas. Checked with albergues in town and she does not seem to be staying in town. Posting on the outside chance she is checking in here.
Planned to stop in O Pedrouzo in 2018, but got caught in such a torrential downpour I missed the town entirely. Saw an arrow, followed it through the forest and landed in Amenal (3+k down the road). Lovely spot. Virtually empty. There are usually alternatives to Plan A. Often better ones!
I expect it will be quieter toward the end of the month. Another consideration is how long you expect it to take, and the cooler weather you may experience toward the end based on that, which may alter your packing list. But I truly believe a lot of the panic about lack of accommodation is...
Yes. I comfortably walked from before O'Cebreiro to Santiago in 7 days, as a very fit 64 year old with a lot of pre-training, who had started in SJPdP. Just as for me the most important thing I could do for my Camino prep was to stop running and up my walking, the most important thing you can...
The difference is completely irrelevant. My 796k quickly turned into 998k. A simple stroll through a town to buy a yogurt for breakfast, a "rest day" on which you walk 15k in your flip flops, it is all part of the journey. And it doesn't matter.
One thing to consider for first timers: It appears many are spending more time booking than training. If the same amount of effort went into being trail fit, some of the apparent panic would be mitigated, as the capacity to walk to the next town would not pose a hardship. I truly believe...
I am surprised every time I come on the forum to read so many posts from people who want to “do” the Camino, but don’t actually want to “walk” the Camino. What’s the deal with that? And there are always a lot of people actually encouraging them not to. Perhaps refer to the Media section on...
