Are passport copies accepted at albergues?

Honestly, I can't support the copy thing. Is it easier for you? Maybe, but at almost everyplace I have worked except Grañón, we have been told to look at the original documents. The Guardia Civil do come by and check the handwritten register that we use so I need to see the original. At Grañón...

No rooms available mid Sept in Roncesvalles, any suggestions?

Yes, it is less likely that bedbugs may reach you in an upper bunk with a metal frame and not against a wall. Of course this is if you don't bring them with you or the aren't already on the top bunk. They climb wood easily. Plastic and metal less easily. Someone had posted they liked frilly...

    Coffee

Yes, and important to get a coil for the EU and not the US in my case...poof, it was gone...also had one burn out in the US because I didn't have it submerged. Since then I have gone with the microwavable cup...at home and abroad.

    Backpack?

My husband ordered his pack from 6 Moon Designs. They had him take measurements to ensure the fit (modular parts so you order your preference of belt, straps or vest style, etc). Then the had him fill it and walk around the park where I took photos and we sent them to the company. They then...

From just before Burgos - 47 friggin kms to find a bed!!!

Our first Camino in 2016, many of the young people in school and church groups had an obligatory mat to sleep on the munipal sports hall floor or in the church. Last year they were all shipping their packs and walking only with a light daybag. In 2016, if you needed a mat, you could borrow one...

September is an extremely busy month from St Jean.

We are also older, but love the albergues...

    Coffee

Microwave with a cup of hot water. My electric coils always burn out and it is hard to source a replacement. We almost always stay at an albergue with a kitchen or at least a microwave.

Group of prison inmates walking the Camino

Met an Italian lad and his mentor in Zamora as hospitaleros in 2017. Longer story. The boy ran away in the night and returned before dawn the next morning. This all created consternation with the other pilgrim, Phil, and I. The boy was taken back to Italy and then returned again to the Camino a...

    Madrid to Ponferrada

The bus may be cheaper. Buses in Spain are pretty comfortable. If you are starting to walk the next morning, it might be nicer to get in earlier.

    Recent Smelly Pilgrim Test

As I mentioned, I wear a holey well-used one for daytime walking and then have a nicer outfit in the evening. You can always tell the new pilgrims when they join the pilgrimage as their gear is always clean and bright. Their shoes are clean and their shirts don't have that grayed after...

    Recent Smelly Pilgrim Test

Some Merino will certainly get holes in it. Some brands and blends worse than others. It is one of the drawbacks that the wool fibers in the finer knit shirts and garments. I have used several brands and while some shirts, tights, dresses have lasted years, others succumb after only short wear...

    Coffee

Stop in the next small town? This winter I often had to make a cup of instant using coffee con leche packets. It's not great, but was better than none.

    Correos rucksack transport question

I think they give you a discounted rate for the whole trip, but you are not required to give a scheduled pick up and drop off for everything at once. You can check pricing on their website. https://www.elcaminoconcorreos.com/en/rucksack-transfer

    Correos rucksack transport question

You can check the Correos drop down list for the places they deliver to and then make a reservation. Then you call Correos and update them on where to deliver the bag by a certain time each evening. They speak English. You also tag your bag and place the destination on the tag. This is in my...

    Backpack?

First, does the pack fit you well. Have you tried it on? It looks very big. My pack is 42 liters and I carry my clothes medications and a CPAP machine even in the winter when you need warmer clothes and a sleeping bag. Many others who don't need medical devices carry packs 32 liters or so. Can...

No rooms available mid Sept in Roncesvalles, any suggestions?

How are you checking? Booking.com will not have all the available rooms. I went to one of the hotel websites directly and there were still rooms available in mid-sept.

Alternative to Monbus (Samos to Santiago)?

The train goes to Ourense a d then switch to Santiago. The bus will be cheaper and likely quicker.
