Can any members who have walked the Stevenson route help?
Has anyone walked this route without booking accommodation before starting? I want to walk this route in September, the last 2 weeks. And would like to book accommodation the day before i arrive. Or on the day i walk.
Can i get away with...
...Puy next May , it seems fitting to me to walk the first half after walking to Finisterre last year . Besides I found the countryside along the GR70 so beautiful I really want more of it and for a longer time .
A basic question , I suspect the rail system will carry me to Lyon from St Jean...
...All packed and ready to go !
If donkey travel intrigues you
read Robert Louis Stevenson's classic 1879 Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes.
Modestine, his donkey, had a heavy load to carry including RLS's fur-lined self-designed sleeping bag.
Today the GR70 in SE France follows their route.

The GR65 is separate from the GR70. The GR70 does begin south of Le Puy, but not actually in it. The GR65 heads southwest from le Puy, whereas the GR70 heads mostly due south.
it is beautiful / magnifique! I expect that it will be very busy in May ... as Andy has already noted, it would be worth making your reservations without delay ... I know from one of the GR70 Chemin de Stevenson FB groups that others are already doing that ... bon chemin et bons préparatifs 👣👣👣
Leki round tips for sure . I also bought them in Zubiri , perhaps there is a ley line through this town that makes them better than anything else:) so far they have lasted the bulk of the Frances , the entire GR70 and countless Australian bush walks .
..., but different , something that I won't immediately compare with the Frances . The end of May next year all willing will see me walk the GR70 / Stevenson's Way .
After that , well, there are always the Five thousand plus Kilometres of the Australian ' Bicentennial Trail , something that can...
Wikiloc has GPS tracks for all the stages of the GR70, many with extensive notes (in French; open in Chrome for auto-translation) and photos. Even if you don't plan to use a GPS, looking at the photos might give you a sense of what each stage is like. Here's one (click on the user name for the...
I walked the Frances , the Francigena and the GR70 after having two vertebrae fused as well as a Laminectomy .
Depending on the type of procedure it might take some time to reach pre operative back muscle strength , the slightest incline felt like Everest to me for months afterwards .
But you...

..., a quick scout around ; mainly behind bushes , for the inevitable tissues allowed me to find the correct path accurately each time .
Along the GR70 in France this May/June I saw only a few incidences of this , it seems that the practice is becoming the norm in Spain , perhaps a question of...
...well , I had such an amazing time I would be loathe to try it again in case the second time didn't live up to the first . Some memories really should remain sacred .
Still , I needed a new adventure so for me and some that I met along the Way it is Stevenson's Way or the GR70 for May/ June...
...socks every few hours made walking practical , the temperatures were over forty 'C most days .
However in the cooler climate of France on the GR70 last year they came into their own , the waterproof qualities made the cold mornings and wet grass and mud easily traversable . I was glad to...
July 2014, LeMonastier to LeBouchet on the RL Stevenson route (GR70). Too many days near 35C for this Oregon Lad. Bailed a few days later at LaBastide to go to Paris. Walked nearly every arrondissement and loved GeoBrassens park and Le Lapin Agile.I adore walking big cities nearly as much as...

I'm back home now after finishing the GR70 last week . What a marvellous experience, so very different from the Camino de Santiago yet so very worthwhile. It is essentially a series of crossings from valley floors to mountain ridges , very strenuous in parts and so very scenic.
