I’m 59. Walked the Sanabres in 2018, Salvador + Primitivo (+ Invierno) in 2022.
I totally agree with the previous post by Camino07.
So that makes two. But the other way round seems doable too.
Could be I'm mixing albergues up. I've stayed in quite a few over the last 10 years. At least I do remember the entrance. I don't remember picking up the key though.
On the wall there's a sign that says 'Albergue'. On the photo it's on the left side. Furthermore: I stayed there in 2018. Don't remember if it was nice or not though...
I've walked the VdlP in 2018. The wildest animals I encountered were a number of vultures, probably just waiting for walkers to collapse...
After turning left to follow the Via Sanabres (instead of joining the Frances) and entering Galicia, I stayed in a small Galician town. After sunset, in...
Buen Camino!!
Great you're going. I hope everything will work out for you and that you'll enjoy this one. I did. I thought the VdlP in it's own regard is a very beautiful one.
Although I'm starting this year's Camino on May 9th, it'll not be the VdlP. Anyway, I'm sure you'll have plenty of...
The need for water (also) depends on the time of year you'll be walking the VdlP. In 2018 I started walking the second half of August. Being rather naive I assumed that temperatures would be moderate by then (with autumn on it's way). They weren't.
The distances between two towns being longer...
Maybe it's because I'm just not a very intelligent man, but for me it's very simple:
I never think of other people cheating. How someone wants to do their Camino (or other things in life) is entirely up to them. It's not for me to judge.
If you decide to take a taxi (for whatever reason) it's...
After having walked the Frances twice, I now have become a Camino addict. And I like to meet people, but just not in vast numbers. So I'm avoiding Holy Years. Nevertheless, it's an interesting question.
The statistics provided by the Pilgrim's Office in Santiago might help.
The number of...
It's quite personal of course. I started my VdlP last year the third week of August, thinking "It's almost September, so fall is getting close". That was a bit naive. When I started, temperatures would reach 48 Celsius (118 Fahrenheit).
That was hot. I seriously considered 'moving' to the...
I’ve walked the VdlP last year, but I haven’t seen anyone use a kick scooter.
But I also remember walking a lot on sandy paths and gravel roads. Not so much pavement. Except of course in the cities, but (considering the total length), there weren’t that many of them.
Or is my judgement obscured...
Correct: Casa Anita in Sta. Croya de Tera is closed, but on the other side of the river is another albergue (Albergue de Peregrinos Sta. Croya de Tera).
Hi Vendy,
In 2018 I walked the VdlP from Zafra to Santiago. Started mid August as well. As someone already stated: it can still be warm that time of year, but doable. But north of Salamanca it wasn't too bad. Cover your head and carry plenty of water and so on...
Further south (in the...
Take a look at these 2 websites for more information about the Mozárabe from either Almería or Granada:

Hi Sue,
I did the VdlP last year. Although my daily distances are a bit longer than what you prefer, I took a quick look. It's possible to walk from Seville to Astorga (assuming you want to do the VdlP and not the Via Sanabres) in 37 days with a daily average of 20 km. As far as I can see...
Although I'm not a woman, I met a number of single women walking the VdlP last year (August/September). There were enough fellow pilgrims around to be looking after each other, without even once resulting in a 'bed-race'. I never made a reservation: no problems whatsoever finding a bed...
