Yes, when I used them it was short notice so all the airlines were charging 'full fare'. Vueling became a good option especially as it was from Heathrow at a reasonable time of day (no hotel needed).
I flew with them a few years ago from Heathrow to La Coruna. It was fine, but I think you do have to get in early for the best fares. The only problem seems to be unsubscribing from their email list, which I've tried to do numerous times without success!
I once flew from London to Istanbul with Istanbul Airways. Now, I'm tall and was in coach class, but frankly I was just happy still to be alive after that.
Thank you Castilian and Laurie. My flight arrives late evening so I booked a hotel in Chamartin anticipating that I'd be able to hop on the train the next morning. At first the Renfe website didn't come back with anything before the 16.27, but now it says there's a slow one with a change that...
Is this new service the reason why I'm struggling to find trains to Sahagun? There used to be a direct one at about 10.30am, but they seem fewer and further between this year and involve changing in Palencia/Valladolid. Thanks!
Hi Cindy! To be honest I'd be on my way to the airport at midday to allow enough time for check in etc. A great alternative would be the English Mass at 10.30am. It's in one of the side chapels in the cathedral, and is also aimed specifically at pilgrims. It's a much more intimate service, and...
You can ALMOST be very clever and go from Manchester to Santiago via Geneva with Easyjet, but it's tight. On certain days of the week there's a flight from Manchester at 8am arriving in Geneva at 10.50am. The flight to Santiago leaves at 12.30. Coming back by that route should be easier to...
From memory I'm thinking about 25 mins from airport to station in the bus, but others might correct me. The pilgrim office will be open for the last train and these kind people will find you a bed. Although it's mid summer it's not the peak time for pilgrims leaving SJPP (September will be...
Hi Dan. I guess it depends on whether or not your flight is on time. It's a small airport so if you have to wait for bags it shouldn't be too long. You may well meet other pilgs who will be in a similar position, so I'd say the chances of sharing a taxi are good if it comes to that. Go with the...
If you're anywhere near Derry, you can often get flights from there to Stansted for £20 or so. From Stansted, there are flights to/from Biarritz (for SJPP), Santiago and cities along the north coast of Spain. It would depend if you could get flight times and connections to work for you. Happy...
Easyjet start their flights from Gatwick to Biarritz in June, in case the timings work better than Ryanair from Stansted.
If cost is a major consideration and you're able to book a couple of months ahead it would be difficult to beat Ryanair from Stansted. I've often found it cheaper overall...
Yes and no. I'd caught a bug on the way over so I felt like death, and it seemed like a lot more than 25kms or whatever it is. On the positive side, that's probably because I was ill, and I managed it even in my compromised state. The mist on the sea in the morning was beautiful.
Yes, it depends on your airline. It is actually a major airport, I think including Dubai, Doha and Singapore. However if you had to add an extra leg to your journey you could do better than Barcelona.
Hi! Pamplona is a great place to start. It's not a huge city so when you arrive in the centre you won't be far from the trail. Guide books such as Brierley's have town maps showing the route and location of albergues. Even if you don't plan to stay in an albergue it would be a good place to...
The problem with London is that there are 3 different airports that could be involved. From the States you're most likely to arrive at Heathrow, possibly Gatwick. The budget flights to northern Spain leave mainly from Stansted with some from Gatwick. There's an hour or two bus transfer between...
That sounds great Nidarosa. Sometimes we can just be lucky with timings, prices, and the whims of Ryanair/British rail. My last Camino (1 week from Ourense to SdC) cost less than £200 including flights, train to Ourense and accommodation, but excluding the journey back from Stansted. That's why...
