I stayed in Hotel Vilaseco too on my walk earlier this month- found Manuel and his father very charming, and it was a great location making the walk to Rodeiro a bit shorter the next day. I hope they get more pilgrims coming through!
I hope you get sunshine (but not heat) for your climb!
Cantina Mean is no more than 3km from Diomondi, on LU-P- 5806. I turned right off the camino route onto a farm road a few km before Diomondi that brought me right to its door. Juan is on WhatsApp +34 678 50 52 19.
I am staying tonite at Hotel Vilaseco- again, many more beds for pilgrims than...
Wow, WOW! The albergue in Diomondi is so new, so big, and so empty! I was the only pilgrim there last night and the hospitalero told me I was the first peregrina to stay and maybe only the 12th person?
There are many many rooms and beds, also bathrooms (though showers only on first floor), and...
The tourist office in Monforte says they don’t have a number for the albuergue in Diomondi but it is open and can just show up- so that is what I will try when I walk through day after tomorrow. I think it is now on Gronze as well?
This walk is extremely beautiful, well marked, and empty (just...
At this point I’ve left the Madrid route (I guess I should edit my subject line but not sure how to do that!). Here are my reflections on the CdM/ the parts that I did as a first time peregrina:
- this way is so well marked. I also downloaded gps tracks via Ray and Rosa’s very helpful site, and...
I’ve left the Madrid walk and headed west after Penaflor, but understand that all of the albuergues from Villeguillo onwards on the Madrid are open. I stayed in albuergues in Villeguillo, Alcazaren, Puento Duero, and Penaflor de Hornija, all very good, and Arturo in Puento Duero (the president...
I walked from Peñaflor de Hornija to Urueña, the book village, with a stop for lunch in La Santa Espina (the monasterio there looked lovely as well but I didn’t stop). No albuergues in Urueña, I stayed in a casa rural. I enjoyed the incredible view, the old wall surrounding the village, and the...
Hi Robin, it’s been chilly but I see looking at the forecast that it’s about to start to get warm and I’m wondering if I’ll wish for shorts on a hotter day. I would say just make sure you have what you need to be comfortable in rain and a chilly morning, but it will be warmer for you than it has...
@Eve Alexandra I’ve enjoyed your posts immensely, thank you for sharing so authentically and personally- including your beautiful new ink! You’ve inspired me to challenge myself in new and different ways on my own walk, and your info about your encounters has been very helpful! Wishing you well...
Everyday there is an unexpected delight, curiousity, challenge, act of generosity….
This morning I left Valladolid, decided to take a taxi to Ciguenala because there was a while before a bus, and I’ve got some longer walks ahead with likely no taxi or bus options, and trying to take care of...
Where are you on the Madrid? I am in Penaflor de Hornija at the moment. I am again the only person in the albuergue, and every place has been clean, welcoming, more than adequate. I took the train back to Madrid for my first 3 days, and returned to Segovia by bus rather than stay in Santa María...
Now in Valladolid for a couple days for the holiday, it was an easy 8m walk from Puento Duero through the forested paths to Vallodolid’s outskirts and then to the center. I used the tracks that @AJGuillaume shared in the Virtual CdM thread but it turned out to be quite easy/clear. Stayed in the...
I am on the Madrid now, and have found water in many of the small towns (some with several fuentes but nothing else), but also some towns where I don’t see any working fountains. I am not pressing my luck, bringing plenty with me each day to get to the end of my walk. There are also stretches...
Yes, I am planning on going to Sahagun and then hopefully on to Santiago. I’m now in Alcazaren, which is very welcoming and has a new albuergue with 4 bunk beds and helpful people at the ayuntamiento (where I got the keys), the tourist office (where I’m enjoying wi-fi access), and the Bar Real...
We booked ahead through Segovia, as I was with my sister and we could share a room. We stayed extra days in Madrid and took the train back each night, and in Segovia and took the bus back from Santa Maria el Real. Now I am at the albuergue juvenil in Nava de Ascuncion- which seems to also be a...
We’re on our way! My sister and I started walking from Madrid earlier this week and have made it to Cercedilla. The trail is so well marked and the walk is incredibly beautiful. Cold and rain the last two days but I’m reminding myself that this is better than too hot!
Tomorrow we’ll stay in...
I am behind you, walked from Colmenar Viejo to Manzanares today in the rain. Did you take the train from Cercedilla to Segovia because the mountain walk is not passable at the moment? Walking to Cercedilla tomorrow and hoping to walk to Valsain on Sunday.
This looks like a wonderful option! Is there somewhere you would point me to get the tracks for the walk between La Robla - Ponferrada, as it seems to not be the 'official' route? Thank you - I leave from Madrid next week, very excited!
