I've used Teva Tirra's on all of my Camino's but on the PCT last year I wore bedrock sandals which are much lighter than Teva's and with a vibram sole. The only reason I didn't bring my bedrocks on this current Camino is because sometimes I like to wear socks with sandals and the bedrock sandals...
I've been in Portugal for the last 6 weeks and have noticed most restaurants giving me bread/plates of cheese/meat/olives when I sit down, but also a note on the bottom of many menus (except where I am right now!) stating that you can't be charged for anything that you didn't order and didn't...
After 5 Camino's and 5 bed bug experiences I bought the lifesystems bed bug sheet as well as the lifesystems bed bug silk liner AND pretreated my pack and every stuff sack as well as my sleeping clothes with permethrin for my recent September camino.
All I can say is that it was the worst bed...
The Camino Frances was my first long walk in 2013 and since then I've walked a further 9,000km on other caminos, in the UK, Japan and most recently the PCT... The caminos have been the most rewarding and insightful for me personally and I can't keep away! Addicted...
Hi Maggie,
Yep, I had my first skirt delivered to the UK and I didn't have to pay any import charges. (I'm not sure if I was lucky or there's just no charge on it though?)

The longer I walked, the more my stomach decreased and the longer my skirt became ;) ... but that's what's so nice about having a yoga waistband, it could never fall below my hips :)
I second the purple rain skirt :)
I bought one for my hike from Mexico to Canada last year on the PCT and wore it every single day (160 days), then walked the Camino Frances in it in November and it still looks brand new :)
It has terrific pockets - they fit my iphone, purse, passport, hand...
I was planning to walk the VDLP in Nov but am starting to feel nervous about reading reports of robberies and other incidents to solo female walkers...
I know this will be a quiet time of year and I may not see many other pilgrims but is anyone walking the VDLP in Nov?
Kat
Hi Annie,
I just stumbled across this thread and thought I might be able to help with the costs from my experience in June 2014. I stayed in albergues/hostels wherever possible and my total for accommodation was about 230 Euros (including donativos):
Vilafranca de Xira: Pensao Ribatejana (€10...
Unfortunately I have the walking bug too... I left my job to walk the Camino Frances in May 2013, and have since walked three more caminos, 3 trails in England, one in Japan, one in Italy and I'm now 560 miles into the 2,650 mile Pacific Crest Trail. I don't think I'll ever be cured!
I stayed at Hostal Alvarez which is in a terrific location, had wifi, a twin room with private shower and cost me €25 last October. On booking.com now it's €28 for the 22 July.
I have a pic of the room I stayed in on my blog here.
Buen Camino!

Hi Len,
I've carried a Garmin 62S on 3 of the 4 caminos I've walked, but not the Frances. You don't need a GPS on the Frances because of the abundance of arrows but if you wanted to take it to record your tracks, elevation profile etc ... Take it, but u shouldn't need it to find your way. If you...
Hi Eric,
I walked the Hadrian's Wall path last August from East to West and if I could recommend anything, it would be to go West to East to have the wind with you, rather than against :)
If you wanted something slightly longer and very beautiful, I highly recommend the Coast to Coast...
Hi Sabinep,
This is a great, light gear list :) If you wanted to shave an extra 110gr off, you could look at the Sea to Summit Ultra Sil day packs instead of the shoulder bag. I have one and it fits all my stuff in it for taking into the shower (toiletries, change of clothes, camera, phone...
Although not May, I walked the Primitivo the beginning of October last year with my sleeping bag and I would definitely recommend taking one. (I can't really answer the question about blankets because I was never looking for one, but I can't recall moving any off the bunk for my sleeping bag)...
Sorry if this is irrelevant now... I walked the Primitivo in Oct 2014 and used a GPS so I have elevation profiles of this walk on my blog if anyone needs to see them. The link is here.
Buen Camino!

Does anyone have any experience with the Patagonia Sol Patrol shirt? (I need something for walking through the desert on the Pacific Crest Trail, not camino).
Rohan would be my second choice.
Thanks & Buen Camino!

I changed to pacer poles 2 years ago and haven't looked back, I absolutely love them.
I have a bad knee so I rely on them ALOT when walking downhill. I find they keep me more upright (I usually start to slouch with a backpack on) and they also give me a boost uphill. I love the handles and...
Hi Anemone del Camino,
When I walked the Camino Frances, the "high route" was closed due to the amount of snow, so I had to take the low route (which was beautiful), but alas, I can't compare because I haven't experienced that route... I'm also yet to walk the Norte, so I'm no use there either...
