    The Taking of Gloves Paradox

Even in my sub 4kg packing list there is a pair of gloves. They are the cheapest ones decathlon is (was?) selling. Made from some kind of fleece material. Very likely also the lightest ones at 22g a pair. I typically use them for cold mornings. I also use them when it is raining. For some time...

The price of coffee in Spain and the perplexing economics of it

So assuming 10g of coffee for an espresso/cafe solo (i get conflicting numbers)... the difference between a "cheap" 10€/kg and an "expensive" 40€/kg coffee is exactly 30ct. To me that doesnt explain a price difference of 2-3€.

The price of coffee in Spain and the perplexing economics of it

Coffee, for quite some time, has been one of the things served in bars and restaurants with the highest margain. As an anecdote, i remember a story from my childhood from a restaurant owner how the german counterpart of the IRS measured his water consumption to calculate how many coffees he...

What's the Camino like right now?

My experience is from May this year, a month that is quite busy, but not the busiest month for the most problematic section. Here's my thoughts: - The Xunte de Galicia has been promoting the final stretch of the camino heavily for years, especially so the last 100km. - The last 100km...

Zoom interview whilst on the camino

I do remember a few (very few) places on the C.Frances where i did not have reception and also no Wifi available, San Bol for example. But those were tiny tiny places usually, so if you plan to be in a bigger village for your interview you'll be fine, being in a hotel with wifi would also help.

New rule reported: 2 stamps per day within Spain [awaiting confirmation]

Exactly my experience so far, but lets see how they handle it in the future. Hopefully the volunteers in the office will still hand out the certificates with some common sense. Not that important for me, i only framed my first compostela, the others are still sitting in their roll, but i would...

Your actual time on the track?

I understand your concern, i guess i had the same at some point, but in practice, it is not a problem. Lets assume some worst case szenario: you walk slow and need to rest often. Lets say you cover 2,5km "on track". Lets say you are aware of it and set foot "on track" at 07:00. Given the...

New rule reported: 2 stamps per day within Spain [awaiting confirmation]

What a weird rule. So if i start in St.Jean, don't know about that rule, find out halfway... do i have to "lose" my credential in Sarria and start a fresh one so i can follow the two stamp rule? Doesnt make sense.

    Is this crazy?

Yep, absolutely normal. Even had it on camino #2. After a few days i always came to realize that things work out just fine.

Knife blade length on High speed train, Spain

If we start asking "why couldn't you find it yourself" i guess a lot of topics on this whole forum will take turn south... sometimes it's just the use of the correct use of a phrase on google one did not think of, but yeah, i guess sometimes it's not.

Knife blade length on High speed train, Spain

Source: https://www.renfe.com/es/en/regulations "Knives with blades measuring more than 6 cm in length." --> like with airplanes in Europe.

    Finisterre Day Trip

I think the Monbus to Fisterra was 7,20 per trip. No idea what the schedule is, but the one we took to Fisterra took almost 3h, following the coastline and stopping often. If you enjoy these views not a bad trip. The one taking us back took only a little more than 1h, driving directly on the...

Your actual time on the track?

All valid points and i am sure more can be found. Just a word of advice, because i have been there myself: walking against a "clock in your head" has not been the most rewarding experience. Took me a while to figure that out.

Your actual time on the track?

Very depending on who's walking. Younger me walked at 4,7 incl. all the first time over 29 days. Second time was 4 and third 3,6. But that time i literally sat down for a proper lunch meal more than once. On the other hand, as others have pointed out, the question is really not that important...

Your actual time on the track?

Have to add to my previous post While i walked my first CF at a relation of 1,23, i did walk my second CF at a relation of 1,37 and this years Primitivo at 1,48 (with outliers as high as 1,85). As to the WHY of that... who knows.

Your actual time on the track?

During my CF in 2019 i had a gps app running that i started in the morning and stopped when i arrived at the albergue. Maybe some days i did not exactly start it in the right point or end it in the right point, but i guess with all the variables involved (as you already aknowledged) it might be...

    Cheating

We had a great laugh about paying 5,50€ for 3 beers. But then, we paid 5,50€ for 3 beers, so we didn't bother complaining.

    Last cross entering Santiago

You are exactly right, it is even before Lavacolla. But then she said something about it being "typical" to leave something there and i can't think of another place on the Frances except for the Santiago sign when you enter the city. Let's see if th OP will clear things up.

    Last cross entering Santiago

Did you by chance mean this one? Yeah, not a cross, and also about 10k out of Santiago, but "right of the path next to a highway" and also quite famous... (its where you pass the airport)
