How many days off did you take on the CF?

An example of a good "day off" is to start walking at about 6am and arrive at the destination about 8 or 9 which then allows a full day of being there, ideally leaving your pack at the Albergue when you arrive whilst the Hospitalero or cleaner is still there.

Camino Frances calls more strongly than the other caminos

Robo - as one aussie to another, I have difficulty with calling Le Puy remote, let alone more remote - it is the most popular route in France and connects seamlessly with the Frances. Sometimes the understanding of routes can get confused between remoteness with number of peoples walking. The...

    Where was I?

This a forum which is very tolerant of, or perhaps blind to, all our various idiosyncrasies and eccentric behaviours. Pilgrimage is a place for all, possibly where normality is elusive. Or simply, a broad church. After, it is not possible to dislike me on this forum.

Walking in October - does it differ much from May / June?

Although last year's wine grapes will be much better.

Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles, leaving in the afternoon

I thought the second part of your post was spot-on. "evaluate ... adjust" BUT with the proviso of starting cautiously for a few days and then increasing effort until you reach your limit, if you want to. That is hard to achieve if day 1 is to Roncesvalles of course so it is much better IF you...

Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles, leaving in the afternoon

Perhaps so, but it depends on the purpose of the thread. Has it morphed into a philosophy or a cry for help therapy conversation? Although not for the person who originated this thread but for others. Noting that many of the comments probably have come from people who have walked many Caminos...

    Breakfast

Sorry, I have no direct experience as I now walk on Caminos with few pilgrims. My comments were 2nd hand. What has been said by others on this forum is that the closest bars or cafes to Albergues in the popular towns where pilgrims stop are very busy when the early rush of pilgrims start...

    Breakfast

If I may, humbly (?), provide more information. Assuming this includes "bars" which in my experience on many Camino routes (but not the Frances recently) far out number seeing the word "cafe", I have found many open before 7, and indeed before 6. But notwithstanding that, you can of course get...

    Breakfast

@Bog526 Once you discover the simple delights in bars of tostado (usually half a bread roll) with ham or bacon with cheese, and an expresso coffee of your choice (eg cafe con leche) it is possible you will never eat an even simpler breakfast in an Albergue again. Or a fresh croissant that you...

    Breakfast

I normally leave around sunrise, give or take, and walk to the nearest bar. Maybe close by and many open early. Sometimes the walk might be an hour or so. A little walking before breakfast I find beneficial and also the walking after breakfast will be an hour less.

    Becoming a Pilgrim

I look forward to reading whatever you choose to share with us on this forum. Pilgrims are often caring people, and nearly all the Spanish people I have interacted with in accommodation and food and drinks places have been delightful (or near enough :) ). And a Spanish bus driver went out of...

    Gradient Graphs for Camino Frances

Whilst that is very useful and accelerates the process, it is then, depending on the context, useful to manually scale the vertical access of the jpg or png images to suit your purpose. I this case it appears from comments above (and I would agree) the same vertical metres / cm of the image -...

Is this a thing I can do?

I would be cautious about buying specific models and sizes of shoes along any Camino without wasting endless time looking for them. Whilst Decathlon can be quite useful it only has limited range of shoes, and specialist shoe shops are also limited in their range. (I have some experience in this...

    Travel agency suggestions?

... and most likely have a more rewarding experience, even allowing for the possible glitches that might occur.

Is pre-booking accommodation the new normal?

On my reading it seems to be closer to necessary than "merely" respectful. :)

Lunch at Michelin Star Restaurants along the Camino: Pilgrim-friendly Attire Tips

After I walked a Norté (~2016), I took a train to Almansa (8 hrs or so) for a post-walk relaxation in this city where there were 3 restaurants with Michelin Stars, and also a bar which one of the said restaurants also operated. I stayed a week, the eating was most enjoyable as the fine...

How much did you spend and what was the total cost of your Camino Frances, start to finish?

I had been thinking it had morphed into a therapy thread.

Is the Albergue in Roncesvalles a “must”?

That is how I like to start every day, a modest walk before breakfast. It is possible every day on the Frances, but less so on the Caminos less-travelled.

How Important Was It To You To Do "Full" CF ?

On the topic of this thread, and quite a few other threads with similar conversations, there is a book (possibly a seminal book in Psychology) some might be interested in: "Flow" by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi @Arctic_Alex will understand.

How Important Was It To You To Do "Full" CF ?

I recall when doing a "fuller" ;) version of a Camino I heard a French person saying it takes about 3 weeks to get track-tough (physically, mentally et al). I suspect the expression in French (which I don't recall) might have a nice ring to it. It takes time to get in a state of flow. If that...
