    Camping, Cash and other questions!

hmm . . . 7 k was too much for me in 2007 and I'm not getting any younger. 6K is just about do-able . . . again, just shows how different we all are . . .

    Address for Credential

Can anyone tell me the address of the Pilgrim Records Secretary of the Confraternity of St. James, UK? I am a member but I can't find the address and I need to send off for some credentials. If you have it (on the back page of a bulletin - which I can't currently find), then please Email me...

Equipment list and opinions from recent camino

Re: Equipent list and opinions from recent camino I'll pass on skirts but, I agree, it's nice to feel a bit special in the evenings after a long, sweaty and/or muddy walk. I really enjoyed showering and getting into clean clothes and the one item I decided that I had missed off my equipment...

    Tent - uk readers

It is disgusting and quite unecessary. I belong to a walker's group back home and we have regular "ladies' stops" BUT NO-ONE EVER LEAVES TISSUES BEHIND in the countryside. If you are worried about drips there are disposable panty liners for that sort of thing (32 thin ones take up no more...

    water

THREE TIPS: 1. In France you can get drinking water at the edge of every village and also even beside some isolated churches - the tap will be in the cemetery. My companion hated the idea at first but it is OK and you'll see all the French walkers queing up to refill their bottles. You can...

    Hostel in Maronas?

Re: Hostel in Maronas - Santa Marina My daughter just finished the walk to Finisterra and stayed in the new private hostel at Maronas that I asked about above (the location north of Maronas is actually called Santa Marina). She describes the hostel as 'lovely'...

    Tent - uk readers

Re: Tent Hmm . . . I dunno . . . my daughter said that quite a lot of people had to walk from Roncevalles to Pamplona (some 40 km?) to get a bed this year! Not a good way to start off if you are unused to walking those distances. And also some people can't afford the more expensive options...

    Tent - uk readers

If you are looking for a very lightweight, cheap tent then Wilkinson's are currently selling one for only eight pounds. It's a bit flimsy and goodness knows how it would cope in heavy rain or very hot sun but if you want one as an insurance it IS very light - not a lot over a kilo...

    After hiking footwear?

I took some black leather ballet shoes and put a foam insole inside. They were S O comfortable to put on inside in the evenings - I could wear them outside but they were not very practical on cobbles or in very wet weather. However, their main virtue is that they weigh about 100g - I couldn't...

    clothes pins/clothes line

We wrapped string, rubber bands and duct tape round our walking sticks and they all came in very handy - especially the tape - we actually had to buy some more.

    Hair

I took a brush with me (very small lightweight and clipped to a rucksack pocket) but never used it - I found that the extremely lightweight wide toothed comb that I also took worked better on my medium-length hair (http://www.suzielda.com/camino/viewphot ... =DC42C1061).

LIVE from the Camino Going to Le Puy tomorrow

So glad you got great views over the Pyrennees - it makes you feel as if you are really going somewhere . . . . P.S. Susan is almost in Santiago -

    Hostel in Maronas?

Ah, I wasn't dreaming - I read it on another forum (http://www.caminosantiago.com/web/foroperegrinos.htm). Unfortunately I cannot seem to find a way of linking to a particular message but here is the link to the picture: http://fotos.subefotos.com/dd249e704183 ... 2c52do.jpg Lola, who posted...

    Hostel in Maronas?

I'm sure I read somewhere that there is a new hostal in Maronas (20 km or so after Negreira) but I can't find the message anywhere now - am I dreaming it?

    No good pilgrims ???????????????????

Yes, still plenty out there On a more encouraging note, although the Camino is by all accounts still packed and people are still having to rush to get to albergues before lunch-time, there are also plenty of good pilgrims out there: http://www.suzielda.com/camino/readblogtwo.php?id=31...

    bed bugs

Bed bugs get carried along the camino by pilgrims but they can also infest a particular bed or room by setting up home there and breeding. They can hide in in cracks in the skirting or behind a picture as well as in the bed. I think the reason they are more common towards the end of the year...

    graphics of changes in elevation

I've always found the 'Camino Planner' from http://www.godesalco.com/plan/frances extremely useful. You can get quite detailed elevation profiles for the whole walk or for just whichever bits you specify. When I planned our walk through France I used this site to judge how far we might...

"Hospitalera from Hell" still open for business

It seems that if she disapproves of a particular pilgrim or pilgrms, she is a lot less than welcoming: http://www.suzielda.com/camino/readblogtwo.php?id=18 There are forums in other languages all with similar complaints (but also with some vehement contradictions). It appears that the...
