Hi Sophie,
I did the Ingles from Ferrol a couple of years ago, and I also had the same trip. Spent the night in A Coruna as I got in around 5pm, and then caught a train to Ferrol. The train was early (between 6am and 7am) and was a scenic ride of around an hour. 15 minutes walk down to the...
Please don't mention A Coruna and seafood to me in the same breath - last year I arrived late into A Coruna, and tried the local shellfish and some lamb before bed. I spent 2am to around 6.30am evacuating said dinner, and then catching the 7am train from A Coruna to Ferrol. I walked most of the...
I've played a fair amount of rugby too and regularly went to the gym, but I found that the stamina for walking for hours is a different type of stamina for running around for an hour. I maintain my go easy on him comment! Hopefully you both enjoy!
Hi Purky,
Hope you are enjoying planning for the trip...having been said grumpy teenager with a father who could walk for 8 hours without stop, be gentle with the rest breaks! Really though, the memories I have of being on camino with my father are just about the most treasured I hold, so hope...
Have you really done the whole journey in stages from Swansea to SDC? I do have a route in mind, should I ever walk from my parents' house (near Aberystwyth) to SDC, in case redundancy comes my way and I end up with a surplus of both cash and time! Without wishing to be flippant, would a pedalo...
Having arrived into A Coruna this summer, and taken the train to Ferrol to start, I guess I have to say that there is a point in suggesting there should be a compostela or an equivalent for completing the Camino Ingles from A Coruna.
However, I can kind of see the other side of the coin as...
I also stayed at the Hostal Sigueiro, but the two albergues as listed in the guide were both full when I tried to contact them. They were private, as opposed to parochial, and had a fairly small number of beds (under 20 each I think, without digging out the guide).
Hello there,
Although others have had their tuppence worth, hope you won't ignore mine, even though it may be a couple of days late!
I didn't find too much of a problem with accommodation, arriving at 4pm at the local albergue, and snagging a bed on the top bunk. Pontedueme was much the same...
How late are you talking about arriving? The bus into Santiago takes around 30 mins, and drops you at the Plaza de Galicia, so if you're there by 11, I know the Seminario Menor is open for arrivals until midnight, is about 10 mins from the bus stop, and is 15 Euro for a private room, or 12 euro...
To add to the Meson Museo love-in, the food is great, plus, over the road from the museum they are growing the hops for the Christmas Special edition of Estrella Galicia, as when we were in the workers from the farm were over having lunch, and gave us the lowdown on the beer! The waitress was...
Got back in from Spain late last night, and I have to say I very much recommend the Camino Ingles as a route to choose. It has some wonderful sections of walking and lovely towns along the way. Generally it is well waymarked, and although I kept the guide at the top of the pack, I was more often...
I ordered the paper copy of the guide, and had it with me for perusal when I was walking, but it was more useful for knowing distances to accommodation / fuentes / shops / bars rather than for guidance, although there is one stretch of around 4km on the way in to Sigueiro where you follow the...
You found forty Brits? Despite being rotund, I sadly wasn't one of them, didn't see another Brit the whole way, and only one or two others that spoke English. It seemed to me that it was a good mix of nationalities on the trail though, with a few more Spaniards and Germans than other...
Sorry to hear that my friend, I was supposed to be walking my Camino with my father this year, starting on Wednesday, but sadly he was hit by a bad cold and flared up some lung problems that have been dormant for a few years. That means I'm flying solo, but hopefully will meet some interesting...
Thanks guys. Although I'm hoping to avoid any bed blocking in the albergues by getting there fairly early, whatever will be will be. I've also downloaded some musicals ready to enjoy along the way. For that reason, I apologise if you hear somebody singing (badly....really badly!) and think they...
The training run was reassuring in letting me know that I do have another Camino in my legs, and I'm certainly in better shape than I was last time out!
Little bit anxious as I'll be going solo this time, and have to do all the looking for signs myself, as well as the inevitable sections of...
Hi FLS - I had a similar dilemma as I'm starting my Camino Ingles next Wednesday, but my flight arrives at 8pm local time. I've got a room at the Hostal Palas, which is fairly close to the train and bus station. There is also a 7am train which departs A Coruna to Ferrol, getting in to Ferrol...
Come on - if I get to Bruma at the end of the longest stage and there's no bed for me, I suspect that I may well cry! Leisurely is part of my plan too, heading off down towards Finisterre after Santiago I'm hoping to ease off the gas and enjoy some relaxed days with shorter distances.
