I think Doug is trying to point out that a town having a statue of a pilgrim is not proof that it was ever on a Camino route - an indication that it might have been, but not proof.
I think it was the French writer Blaise Pascal who apologised to his friend for writing such a long letter as he didn’t have time to write a short one.
Starting the VdlP in August from Seville would be insane but up in Galicia a lot cooler. It is unlikely to rain then, hot but not unbearable. More importantly, there will be shade and shorter distances between towns and villages. Set out early and carry water.
I suspect that if you just had somebody walking up and down ostentatiously depositing momentoes into a large black plastic bag, the practice would soon stop.
March is a very unpredictable time of year. Not only that, different parts of northern Spain can have very different weather, and averages are meaningless because there is year on year variation. Be prepared for cold weather and wet weather and accept that you may end up carrying it all. Shorts...
We’ll be starting the Vasco Interior from Irún in about two weeks. Any tips and information will be gratefully received, even reciprocated if we get the chance.
We have just done this, and it is spectacular. From Sangüesa, you follow the road to Liedana, then you follow the old railway Camino verde, which is actually way marked through the gorge. You will probably stay in the hotel Iru-Bide unless you plan to walk through in one day, not advisable. From...
“If a farmer bought 3 bushels of wheat for £1..17s..6d, how much would it have cost him if he’d bought a cwt?” Now you know why Britain abandoned the imperial system and decimalised its currency back in the 70s. And why my generation (the ones that didn’t die before we got old) are very good at...
In the extraordinarily unlikely case of snake bite: immobilize victim and body part; bandage tightly from bitten area to torso and from torso to bitten area; get medical assistance as soon as possible. Chances of full recovery are very, very high. This is more than can be said for being bitten...
Agreed, but nor do I expect my barber to charge €50 or the equivalent for giving me an all over number 1. €7 for an ATM withdrawal. I think that is excessive.
Go, or get taken by taxi, to the nearest Centro de Salud. If they can’t help you they will arrange for you to be taken to someone who can, probably an ambulance. The Spanish health system is excellent from my experience.
Taxis are quoting €40, so we have decided the road is the best option. It adds a few kms but will be easy walking, probably quicker and still a 25 k day max. We’ll let you know how you get on. Ena albergue is a little gem, by the way.
That can happen, but I’ve had a backpack classed as oversized in a large drysac. Didn’t cause any delay fortunately. Large bag is definitely an option.
This thread has been revived, which is a good thing. We are currently in Ena and wondering how you get down to Santa Cilia without having to negotiate the path between the Monasterio Viejo and Santa Cruz de Seros e.g. bus or taxi options. All suggestions welcome. It’s been a fabulous Camino, by...
