They were German and probably finished their camino by now. I know you are joking but perhaps you should have switched to the Portugeuse senda litoral and spent some time on a beach.
This is one of the most bizarre posts in this forum. I feel the camino frances is definitely becoming something which I didn't experience 5 years ago. Hmm do I want to rewalk it, yes but we'll see. I walked the camino portugeuse and met holiday makers, I.e. started at 2pm and stayed up...
I must admit I am a bit selective where I stay and look for recent positive reviews on gronze, booking.com or word of mouth. As others said stopping in between stages helps, although if everyone is doing that perhaps it’s the inbetween places that are filling up.
I hate it when pilgrims walking are on their phone gossiping with friends and family loudly and for what seems like hours. I really don't want to wear ear plugs when walking, so I try to run past them.
Or you get lost and then a male pilgrim is following behind for hours thinking I was on the right path but never close enough to speak. Then you get onto the right path and heavily relieved. I don't know the nationality of the fellow but I don't think he spoke English.
In Orisson at the communal meal, we had to state our names, nationality and if it was our first camino, or ... Didn't have to give a reason for walking, which I wouldn't have been happy to do. However, I was asked by a German ex-nurse, who was sitting across the table from me. I didn't ask her...
Yes, for the first time. Roncesvalles is iconic, that I would have felt that I missed an essential part of the camino frances experience. Plus, I bumped into someone I met in Orisson and then a father and his two daughters (Irish) that I kept meeting up over the first week and a half.
I did take the steep section, but had my pack couriered to Roncesvalle due to weather condition. I walked down carefully, as I had been warned, and had no problems. However, I met others who had tripped and sprained knees, ankles, and head injuries. Just need to be careful, and realise there...
I feel so envious, I can recall those days walking from Villafranca da Orca to Burgos about two years ago. At Burgos I said goodbye to Ute who I met at Orisson, we both stayed at the Gite as their main place was full.
I walked May/June 2018 (started 2 May from SJPDP). The weather was fine, warmer in the beginning and then the last two weeks it rained every day. So who knows what it will be like in 2020, but I plan on rewalking again May/June.
I was looking for a post office and the little town after Roncesvalles, Burguette, has a post office with limited hours. Perhaps someone on the forum can check its opening hours and whether you can ship a suitcase from ther
I was in a similar situation, but mindful the post office in Pamplona...
I stayed at the Hotel Norte y Londres as well. Great bath so I soaked every night and washed my clothes. Downside no wifi in rooms, you have to go downstairs and use it in the lobby. Breakfast is expensive but then there are lots of cheaper options around. Great location. If you book online and...
Hi Andy I was wondering whether you had developed shin splits. I walked the CF last year in 5 weeks and at the end the soles of my feet were sore and calves swollen and sore. My soles are ok now and I am finally going to see a doctor about my left calf as it still hurts when I do day walks and...
I started from SJPDP last year, my first camino, and finished. I left Australia thinking I needed a plan B in case, due to injury, I couldn't make it. After 3 weeks of walking, I amazingly realised I would finish. I started with quite a number of people who due to injury, particularly walking...
