Last week I walked from Burgos to León and I noticed that from Sahagún to Mansilla de las Mulas the route is accompanied by trees on the left hand side. Trees that provide much appreciated shade from the sun. This is a distance of approximately 37 kms and the trees are spaced at 10 metre...
I am currently walking between Burgos and Leon. The last time I walked this route was in 2016. At that time the yellow arrows were numerous and easy to see. Now however I find the arrows hard to see. I think they have not been painted in many years. Is there some reason for this? I know that I...
Hi Peter,
I read your story with tears in my eyes. Thanks for sharing and I am so pleased for you that you left your addiction behind you in that little chapel.
Aidan
I have walked it twice, both times I took 32 walking days and 3 - 4 rest days. I reckon you need a minimum of 6 weeks to do it all. But if things go awry (perhaps you may need some recovery days) you can perhaps leave out the Muxia element of your trip.
I love your attitude. And remember the journey does not stop in Santiago. The journey only stops when you quit, when you have run out of mental and emotional road. You seem to have a deep reservoir of mental and emotional strength and I admire your determination and resilience. Bravo, Buen...
Are we not all pilgrims all the time whether we realize it or not? Are we not all on our journey through life? Whether we are on the Camino or not, or in Rome/Jerusalem/Mecca/etc. or not, I think we are always on our journey, a journey of life long learning and a quest for what is truly important.
Hi Irebabel,
I feel a deep empathy with you. If I may paraphrase your feelings; You speak of life being against you, of having free will but seemingly no control, of having intrinsic gifts (presumably from the Devine), of finding it difficult to come to terms with other peoples’ bad behaviour...
Hi Jodean,
Maybe I have a strange way of looking at the world, but I see a strange sort of upside to your unfortunate accident. I notice that you mention how many of the people you encountered were very helpful towards you from fellow peringrinos to complete strangers; at the scene, in hospital...
Has the Camino lost its soul? In my opinion, No it has not. Are human beings as different and as varied as they have been since the Camino was first walked over a thousand years ago? Yes I believe they are.
Technology cannot be un-invented. People are social animals and new technology feeds...
You are 25 and have the chance for a summer in Spain - walking the Camino. To some of us that sounds like heaven, especially the 25 bit lol... Seriously, you have a great life opportunity in front of you, an opportunity to perhaps meet someone you have never truly met before, especially as you...
Hi John,
May I venture to suggest that your search for lost trust is focused in the wrong place? I do not doubt for one moment that you are experiencing a crisis of some sort. I get the feeling that you expect the world to behave in a certain way under a certain set of circumstances but what...
Elisha,
I can feel your frustration and pain. I wish you well and hope that you recover quickly and completely and that you find another opportunity to walk the Camino. Finally I hope that you can learn something about yourself or life from your current situation that will help you on your...
