Train Advice - Santiago to Barcelona

I took a high speed train from Santiago to Madrid. Then at that very same station, Charmartin, I took a more local train to the Attocha Train Station. Then I took another high speed train to Barcelona. I think I booked the two high speed trains in Santiago, and then wasn't sure how to get...

    Madrid City Walks

Even if you are not into museums, I would still go to the Museo Renia Sofia to see Picasso's Guernica Painting. It is a very important anti-war painting that is as relevant today as when Picasso painted it. It is really big, too. It is 11 feet high by 25 feet long. Here is the wiki page about...

    Booking train

I took gaiters on the Camino Frances and sent them to the end of my hike. I took a poncho and many times I wished I had my regular rain coat.

Travel from Madrid to St Jean Pied de Port

I describe how I did it in my handout for a camino class I did. It is located here: http://tmanshikes.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/canoecopiacaminonotes.pdf

Madrid to SJPP, via Pamplona or San Sebastián

Well, see if there are any other Pilgrims available to take a taxi. Or start from Madrid on the early train like I did.

Madrid to SJPP, via Pamplona or San Sebastián

You can see exactly how I did the route from Madrid to St Jean in my handout for my Camino Presentation which is located here: http://tmanshikes.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/canoecopiacaminonotes.pdf I hiked the Camino last September and did a presentation at Canoecopia

Making the Most of 4 Hours in Madrid

I'll vote for going to see the Guernica Painting at the Museo Sofia Reina. There is a bus that goes right from the Airport to Attocha Station. That station is only a few blocks from the Museum. There is also a Decathlon Store nearby to get your hiking poles or anything else you need. Then...

Strategy on staying more than one night in a town

Here's a strategy: just keep going. I used a strategy where I did a short day into a city I wanted to explore. So, I stayed the night before at a location that was fairly close to the city. I hiked into the city and explored it to my hearts content, then I continued on the next day. I used...

High speed train Santiago to Madrid

I walked down to the station in Santiago, bought the ticket, and got on the train. It was a mid day train, so maybe it wasn't as crowded as a morning train. This was in early October back when there were lots of pilgrims

Leaving Leon - take a taxi to the outskirts????

You can see that hike here: It's just part of the camino. Sorry that not every minute of the camino is not a beautiful experience. I didn't find it dangerous at all. You are always hiking on the sidewalk or on your own path.

    Overstayed 90 days? From UK?

How about just hiking a little faster and getting there 3 days faster. Sounds kind of ridiculous for just 2 or 3 days extra

Travel from Madrid Airport to Estacion Sur

It looks like that bus station is fairly close to the Attocha Train. There is a bus (number 203) that goes from the Madrid Airport right to Attocha. Evidently, it is a 23 minute walk from Attocha to Sur

Taxi availability (or not )Meseta ???

I found Alto de Mostelares to be one of the best hills to climb on the camino. It has a nice road both going up and down the hill. In fact I did Hontanas all the way to Boadilla that day. The Video is here:

    Airline and airport recommendations needed

I guess I used the wrong term. I had a carry on and it was checked by security. My Cruz de Ferro rock set off the sensors. They tell you to put all your liquids in a separate but you should also put your rock in that bag, too. I didn't have my liquids in a separate bag so I had to sort...

    Airline and airport recommendations needed

My main recommendation is to NOT fly through Heathrow. That Airport is a pain and you have to go through Security and get my luggage checked again because Britain is no longer part of the EU. I had a 2 hour layover there and I just barely made it to my flight to Madrid.

Rideshare Services on the Camino Frances - How do I find them?

Astorga to Sarria is the best part of the Camino. Don't know why you would want to skip it.

A Few Hours in Madrid ...

As previously stated, the main museum with the painting is really close to Attocha Station. I stayed at a Hostel/Albergue in that neighborhood. You can see a list of where I stayed in the footnotes below my post. I also went to the museum at a time when they had free admission. So, check their...

A Few Hours in Madrid ...

When I was in Madrid I made a point of going to the Museo Sofia Reina and seeing Picasso's Guernica Painting. Google it
