I am currently using Find Penguins for a trip through Canada to Alaska, but on the Camino I just use a "Live from the Camino" thread on the forum. Frankly, my family just glazes over when I go on about our Camino experiences and mostly only here on the forum does anyone seem to care about the...
We used to have the "Yellow " book by Raiman Joos which is a German author that had instruction for both walking and biking. Really liked it as it was very precise. Don't know if there is an updated English version, but I still have it on Kindle from 2016. It was called Outdoor: the way is the...
There is one direct train from Madrid daily. Others will connect and transfer at Ourense. You can also fly into Santiago and take a bus either direct (one daily) or connect in Lugo yo Sarria. Monbus is the bus company.
Are you in Ventosa or Santiago? I thought Ventosa was back in Rioja or Castille y Leon? Wonderful report of your trip so far. Enjoy! We love Muxia the best although Fisterra is also nice.
Some options:
1. If you need to sleep off the jet lag, then stay out near the airport with a shuttle. Then take the Cercanías train from the airport in the morning. We stay on points at either the Marriott Conference and Convention Center or the AC Hotel Coslada. You catch the shuttle at the...
Last winter, no issues, but otherwise 2021, 2022, 2023 problems with all all airlines. Cancelled flights, etc. Air travel isn't as fun as when I was a kid in the 60's and 70's.
Don't go in the winter if this is your preference. Almost every cute little bar and restaurant is closed. Xunta albergues open, but fewer eateries or pitstops.
Lessons and tips:
1. Don't converse in the bunk room. Take your conversations to the common area even when it isn't quiet hours.
2. In the morning gather all your things in the middle of your sleeping bag and carry it and your backpack to the common area to pack.
3. Don't put your pack on the...
Yes, I had a heat injury 2 summers ago on the Aragones route on a remote stage. We called a taxi, but had to wait for her to return from Pamplona where she was dropping people off at the airport.
I had the number in advance and also got it from the albergue where we were headed. You could also...
How did they pick this route? Why did they have a group guide? When planning your own Camino you can make more choices on your own. We are 62 and 73 and rarely walk long distances (usually 10 or 12 miles per day), but we select routes which accommodate our choices. We rarely make reservations...
I have stayed in 2 different hotels. One is no longer in business. The other is the Cathedral Hotel. I have not stayed in albergues. One, Betunia is a small donativo with a Communal meal. It does not take reservations. Another highly recommended is a German confraternity albergue just before you...
I won't be bringing another group. I retired last week and am on on my way Saturday to "increase the crowding" in Alaska and Canada by camping all summer. Just Phil and I back on the Camino to walk and volunteer next year in late winter early spring!
