Although a small black adder of some sort jumped straight at me with head raised out of the wheat fields near los arcos in 2015 and fortunately my hiking pole was moving in the right direction. Without even aiming it stopped it from reaching my ankles - only time I’ve ever run with my pack on...
I think either is fine. Plenty of opportunities if you are eager to swim. A few albergues with pools if you look for them and great public pools near some albergues - Najera is wonderful. Also some albergues not too far from rivers where you can swim subect to weather conditions being right -...
Thanks kindly - and thankfully I was still able to walk (despite the grandiose headache and stitches) and did manage to complete the Camino walking in very carefully without my pack the next day. I’ve since walked the Portuguese and Ingles and will walk the Frances again when time avails -...
On my second Camino Frances walking from SJPP with my husband I learned that one should never let one’s guard down as danger abounds at every turn. After crossing the overpass above the freeway into Santiago i hastened with such enthusiasm and joy to catch up with friends , poles under arm and...
One of the many things I love about the camino Frances is no leeches! :) Stops me hiking in rainforests and other areas in the wet here in Oz. A phobia of leeches is Bdellophobia. Hopefully it’s not a false sense of security as many forum posts made me think snakes were not an issue in Spain...
I too only stayed on the coastal route for two days for the same reason - I also found more tourists rather than pilgrims staying in the accommodation - I certainly met more people on the Frances just walking each day due to the volume of pilgrims. I hope the changeover to central will...
Wow! - even advance purchase tickets from Oz are reaching well above $4000 economy return for direct flights since Covid - obviously savings are relative depending on location - I’d still not rely on getting a suitable pack in Sjpp
I am glad help was available and the pilgrim was rescued. I hope I never need them but glad they are there. I too have encountered extremes on route napoleon and wouldn’t go without my liner gloves and a puffer to wear under my rain jacket. (I also use apps which work when only gps signals are...
I second Pax - you can also attend vespers in the chapel next door whether you are religious or not - mesmerising! You can also visit the adjoining Albergue to do your washing and then hang out with other pilgrims if you prefer not to be alone
Interesting Rick - however just straight into phone - no otc for me - I only use it sporadically for short bursts on iPhone- doesn’t seem to drain battery noticeably.
Love this fan - first used on 2018 Camino. Used it in hot dorms for afternoon cool down in 2019 also - stays in my pack - about 20 grams from memory! Love it.
“I was feeling good on the incline up from Hunto but then the heat took its toll. I think I stopped every 100metres to catch my...
Glad to be forewarned - Tia Dolores was a favourite after our first camino - I enjoyed the service and loved their scallops so much that I dragged a bunch of pilgrims for a breakfast of scallops and beer on my second camino! Some places do stay in our banks of happy memories but, for me, at tia...
This was my husbands only purchase in st Jean on two caminos - avoids concerns with carryon and helps make friends - very useful and never wasted weight ! I remember him running down the street in naverette to rescue a poor soul who had a bottle of vino tinto and no corkscrew! My hero :)
The journey down from Cruz de Ferro to molinaseca via El Acebo was the worst day for me out of two camino Frances’s from Sjpp - stopped overnight at El acebo the first camino and didn’t notice it so much - would definitely stop there again in future - brutal definitely! And nothing vaguely as...
That’s a pity - i see you have an android - btw i never zip it up when on camino as I like to be able to quickly grab it. I am happy that my various iPhones have worked with them - I haven’t bought the max versions because they dont fit in most of my pockets either. I hope you find the...
OR Ferrosi convertibles with thigh pocket for me on all my caminos since 2015 with phone in thigh pocket - no problem for me sitting etc maybe you have different version? - I’m always looking but could not yet find better as I also like that they are wind and water resistant and not too hot -...
