On the Norte and want to avoid the Frances until last possible moment into SdC

Thanks everyone I have no problems with long days, but walking through the night is not on my bucket list :)

On the Norte and want to avoid the Frances until last possible moment into SdC

Am on the Norte rn, looking to walk into SdC the morning on Sun 23 Jun. I have read of a way of avoiding joining the Frances till SdC’s airport perimeter, but I can’t easily find any directions or guides when I search. Any help - much appreciated…

    Invierno Planning Questions 2024

@jungleboy i can’t recommend the albergue in Villavieja enough - it’s terrific. From the little balcony of the dorm room, you have views out towards the castle, and the Bierzo mountains in the distance. The castle is a lovely stroll along a tree lined path, to above the castle, then a descent...

Albergue Tu Camino, Ontón: permanently closed

Heck, I stayed there only 2.5 weeks ago… This causes a big hole in terms of albergue accommodation. Santullan is quite a bit further on, as is Castro Urdiales. Santullan was fully booked out with advance bookings when I swung by to enquire for friends a day behind me. So I think for many...

Need Help / Advice on Accommodation in San Sebastian and Northern Route

You’ll heed to book a bed in places like Izarbide and Hostel Getaria. I was in both just 3 weeks ago, and the hospi in Getaria was turning away walk-ins as the place was completo (but there is a muni up the hill). Re Izarbide, you absolutely do not want to be doing that climb up to it at the end...

    Albergue In Muros De Nalon

Reporting back as promised. Raphael is actually here for a few days to show Michael the ropes, and helped him with the barbecue dinner last night. I don’t eat a lot of meat, but it was all very good. As well as barbecued meats, there was a nice salad, a grilled cheese, and baked potatoes...

    Albergue In Muros De Nalon

I’ll report back on tomorrow night’s experience. Excitingly, the dinner seems to be barbeque!

    Albergue In Muros De Nalon

Ok, this is odd because I just called Fali’s and spoke with Michael Ginter to book a bed for tomorrow night. As have a couple of other pilgrims…

current (May 2024) status of albergue bed availability on CDN

Am in Comillas tonight. Have spoken with a number of albergue owners and hospis along both Pais Vasco and Cantabria sections, and they all say this is a record year for pilgrims. I’m doing fine so far with finding a bed, I do tend to send a WhatsApp 1-2 days ahead to reserve a bed.

Following the coast from Santander to Boo

Re-upping this thread to say I walked this route 2 days ago from Santander to Liencres, and absolutely adored it. Utterly beautiful and spectacular. I took a tumble on a flat bit (careless trip on my part, it’s not that the route is tricky), and have bruised a rib or two, so elected to come off...

current (May 2024) status of albergue bed availability on CDN

I’m a day ahead of @AlexB You can absolutely get beds, but I wouldn’t say that there are few pilgrims tbh. I’m at the albergue Izarbide and almost every bed is taken. I WhatsApp’d them a few days ago to reserve a bed, some people called two evenings ago, some yday. I was in Hostel Getaria two...

    Few questions - advice

good questions 1. I do you guys take fork/spoon/knife with you? Even plate and a cup? I intended to bring only fork-spoon maybe. Let me know how useful it was for you. I take a spork (spoon, fork, ‘knife’). The ‘knife’ can cut pieces of cheese, bread etc, nothing more, I also take a...

Thank you for the great reportage and photos @Camino Chrissy

    Roads versus Trails

    Ah. ‘Nuff said.
  16. Simperegrina

    Roads versus Trails

Same for the Frances etc though surely…? Lots of gravel surfaces on the Frances (not decrying what you’re saying about the Norte obvs)
  17. Simperegrina

    Roads versus Trails

Honestly @Robo i know everyone’s mileage may vary etc etc, but the way some talk about the Portugues cobbles, you’d think they’re the cobblestones of the Paris-Roubaix bike race i.e. monstrous…:) My mileage was that they had no different impact than walking on any hard surface

    Sevilla

Well done! You’re well on your way

standard of living/quality of life in Spain

Gonna bite my tongue on this one as I dont want to incur the mods’ hammer

Has to be the official route, surely…
