That's was my first reaction too - that a 15min delay caused a missed flight. Guess it depends on whether the flights were all on one ticket - this would then be up to the airline to rectify or if you booked individual legs yourself. We did this last year to get from Madrid to Lisbon so...
We stayed here last June - agree with all of the above😊 we were on a midday boat, lunched in Padron and visited the cathedral then 5k walk to the albergue. Spacious dorms, ensuite type bathrooms - shower, basin and toilet. Great communal dinner. 20k into Santiago next day.
We also walked from Lisbon last May - and had a small bubble of 10-12 pilgrims. Would certainly recommend it particularly if you want a longer walk - lots of countryside with farmers busy with their crops, amazing towns - Tomar and Coimbra in particular. Yes, some road walking/industry getting...
And definitely before you pick up your food in your hands or the top of your drink bottle. Remember that some virus's (particuarly the highly contagious norovirus) are only destroyed by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water - hand sanitizers don't kill all bugs.
As mentioned by a couple of people above - much more likely spread by contaminated surfaces - someone with poor hygeine after using the toilet touching the tap of water supply then others coming along touching the tap and the cap of their bottle while filling etc etc. Also some bugs such as...
We walked from Conques to Livinhac le Haut and didn't go down in to Decazeville at all as advised by the staff at the Monastry albergue, following back roads once we had climbed out of Conques.
I saw this engaging, inspiring movie in Adelaide last Tuesday with a Q&A session from Bill, his lovely wife and Johnnie Walker - both who starred in the movie. Amazing to know that most of the characters were actual pilgrims he walked with 10 years ago! Laugh out loud moments, pilgrim...
Loving your blog, Paul - it brings back memories of our walk from Lisbon last May. We stayed in a couple of the same places as you enjoying Enrico's place in Valada - and had a long lunch at the river side cafe too 😊 We went back there for dinner before it closed for the evening. We also...
Another vote for Ideas Peregrinas in Tui - excellant breakfast in the cafe - and O Lagar de Jesus in Escravitude - great vegetarian communal dinner. Also recommend We also enjoyed staying at A Darsana do Frances 1k out of Rendondela (on camino) - we stopped at a grocery store on our way...
We stayed at Zuzabed bnb - just up from the Rossio train station in the Chiado district. Excellent location and great breakfast. Luis is very welcoming and helpful.
This brought back memories of when I was a student nurse in Auckland, NZ - we raced old hospital beds down the hill of the main street (Queen Street) in an inter hospital team event🤣
Le Puy to Conques is the most popular stretch with several villages on the 'most beautiful' list - as mentioned in my earlier post we prebooked all our accommodation up to Conques. After this we only booked 2-3 days ahead. A lot of French (and others from Europe) walk in 1-2 week blocks...
For anyone else undecided - we caught a midday boat, lunched and toured the church in Pedron then walked on another 4k to stay at O Lager de Jesus - excellant vegetarian communal meal in a beautifully converted old building. It also has a swimming pool.
