I started in St Jean. I will be in Santiago in a few days. I will have walked 40 days. I will have averaged 12.5 miles per day, which was my goal. I booked ahead 2-5 days. Buen Camino.
Not many hills in my immediate neighborhood so I’ve been walking up and down six flights of stairs 12 times, a few times a week. It’s hot and boring in the stairwell but I pass the time pretending I’m on the Napoleon Route. On April 26th I will be. 🤗
I downloaded and read most of the book on my plane ride to Madrid. I was so excited when walking one day and I found the windowsill where one of the clues was hidden.
Last fall I had my duffle transported to several non private albergues. The municipal in Valcarlos. The parochial in Roncesvelles. The parochial in Carrion. The Association albergue in Astoria. Worked just fine.
It walked the Frances this past Oct. I’m old so I had most of my gear forwarded each day. I planned ahead a day or two, reserving a bed in an albergue, usually private ones. I knew pretty much how far I would be comfortable walking. I used the Village to Village guide to research trail...
I took a pair of the plastic Birkenstocks. They worked great in the shower and for after walking foot wear. Can be worn with or without socks. Very light weight.
