Phones, Sim Cards, Choices and Questions, Oh, So Many Questions!

I recommend buying a used iPhone with eSIM capability off SWAPPA and then get an eSIM for data only, you’ll use your primary U.S. telephone number for calls and messaging, from Airalo or Nomad. Data service in Spain is very affordable and reliable.

I always carried two L and topped-off my bottles whenever possible. I travel light but will always carry two L for precaution and convenience.

    Great Bustards on CdM

Yes. I was told by folks at the Sahagún tourism office they can be found between Sahagún and Bericanos del Real Camino with a high likelihood of active leks. The distance between the two towns is 10km. So, tomorrow I’ll have a short day of walking but a long day of birding🤗

    Albergue Palacio Grajal de Campos

The docent said it was the palace’s food storage. Also the docent, who speaks very good English, is at the albergue until 1900 Wednesday - Sunday and assistance can otherwise be reached via telephone. There are two restaurants and a well supplied grocery store. The tour of the palace, castle and...

    Albergue Palacio Grajal de Campos

I expected to finish my Camino de Madrid today but ~5km from Sahagún I spied a castle and made a side trip to Grajal de Campos and discovered that the town has a lovely albergue in a 16th Century palace. Sahagún can wait a day. This was my first Camino and a great and enjoyable experience.

    Great Bustards on CdM

For those on the Camino de Madrid I saw Great Bustards near, and between, Santervás de Campos and Grajal de Campos April 15 & 16. Magnificent birds.

Poor services in stage after Segovia

Also, I expected to finish my Camino de Madrid today but ~5km from Sahagún I spied a castle and made a side trip to Grajal de Campos and discovered that the town also had, perhaps, the loveliest albergue of my entire trip. Sahagún can wait a day. I am also birding as I trek and had the wonderful...

Poor services in stage after Segovia

Something similar happened to me on April 8th. I had confirmed, via WhatsApp, with the bar owner in Añe that the albergue was open and I could pick-up the keys from him at the bar; however, upon arrival the bar was closed and was told by (via WhatsApp and telephone) the bar owner he wasn’t...

    Marking of the Camino Madrid

I started on the CdM on April 3rd and other than using Komoot to leave Madrid I found that after reaching the tennis center on the outskirts of the city I have found the route so well marked that I haven’t used I found the markings leaving Madrid poor and I used Komoot in the city but once you...

    Starting the Camino Madrid

Agreed the markings for leaving Madrid are poor and I used Komoot in the city but once you get to the tennis center the trail is well marked and I have had no need for my mapping app since.

    Starting the Camino Madrid

Leaving the cityscape of Madrid into the countryside leading into Tres Cantos was a favorite day. I am currently in Segovia siteseeing.

    Starting the Camino Madrid

I started on April 3rd and it’s great. Starting in early April seems perfect as vegetation is green, plenty of water in the creeks, wildflowers blooming, nesting birds singing up a storm…lovin’ every minute thus far.
