Just a liner or sleeping bag? (Possible weather change)

REI brand Helio is <$80. I took that with me for my Sept/Oct Camino from Leon > SDC. It is very compact and light weight. Use a compression sack to pack it down. It worked beautifully for me.

    SIM cards and e-sim advice

I purchased a sim card at the airport upon landing in Madrid, just as you exit to go outside or to the subway connection, there is a store right there. They put it in my phone and it was easy. I bought 30 euros worth and it was good enough for me. I bought the yellow brand (forgetting the name...

Best way to SJPDP from USA

Thank you for the info. It would be great to find a fellow traveler willing to split a rideshare. Does anyone know of a place to post availability to rideshare on a forum or bulletin or app?

A wide toe box trail runner

I've worn both Altras and Tops. Both fit comfortably but Altras fit better. You might consider Altra Timps as an alternative to the Lone Peak. I walked the Cini this past season with mine and they were beautiful. Topos don't feel as nice to me for long distances and mine did not last as well...

    Off stage/étape/etapa.

My interpretation is: ending before or after the prescribe start/end towns noted in the various apps or books. I did that this Sept/Oct when I approached Sarria. I shifted my stays to the little towns and I was so surprised by how I avoided the crowds. I also chose to leave before sunrise to...

UK Telegraph headline "Bedbugs carried into Spanish hotels by Christian pilgrims" - reference to Camino Portugues

The media had to qualify bedbugs with Christian pilgrims (as if they know the faith of the travelers...). Could they just have said 'pilgrims'? The bias against people of faith is disturbing.

Ideal route for a 15-day camino in October?

I just did my first Camino. Leon to Santiago on the Frances. That was 14 days walking. It was a good amount of time and it gave me time to play with an extra day in Finisterre (by land).

WARNING if you're leaving Sarria tomorrow (4th October 2023) ⚠️.

And start early! Watch the sunrise and leave by 7 or 7:30 and you will avoid mich of the crowds.

WARNING if you're leaving Sarria tomorrow (4th October 2023) ⚠️.

Morgade was a great place to stay and I recommend it as I also stayed there to avoid other large groups, just last week. Avoid the large towns and common stage stops.

How did your trip on bike go? What company did you use to rent your bike/s?

    Violence (nearly), due to snoring.

Maybe he can sleep outside under the stars which is truly free.

    Violence (nearly), due to snoring.

With your attitude, and level of anger, I do think going home is the right choice for you and more importantly for the Australian and fellow pilgrims. You've lost the spirit of the Camino, or, the spirit of the Camino is lost on you.

Multipurpose shoes for shower and town?

I haven't done the Camino, yet. But I have had good success on other trips with Keen sandals. Sort of a hybrid shoe/sandal that can get wet and be a great comfy shoe for walking and like hiking.

Greetings kind pilgrims! Walking from Astorga in September

You're asking many of the same questions I also have, along with my same concerns. However, I have not booked my flight as I am still deciding between 3rd or 4th week of Sept. starting from Leon on the CF and with similar time restrictions. I am looking forward to the responses to your thread...

    October 12th, National Holiday

Hispanic Day (Oct. 12, 2023) in Spain is a national holiday according to the calendar that I am seeing. Will this holiday impact walking on the CF? Will albergues, restaurants be significantly impacted with day tourists? Will these establishments remain open? Thank you, as a first timer, I am...

Solo Trip on CF from Leon: Planning Guide - Weather question

I am closely watching and reading to decide when to begin my walk. As I am now seeing how crowded May is on the CF, I am thinking to push my start date back to last week of September and plan for a 15 day walk with 2-3 travel days getting to Leon and returning from Santiago. I am trying to...
