Looking for advice about Camino Le Puy

I hiked from Le Puy on the Camino to Figeac, (mid-July) in undulating countryside, very easy to do really. It was fairly busy but I did meet a lot of nice people. Once in Figeac, I turned off into the Dordogne so I have no idea what the Camio walk is like from there to St Jen Pied du Port.

The Solution to Toilet Paper for the Camino/Outdoors Anywhere!

We all work it out in the end. I carry three different coloured flannels. One for my face, (yellow) one for my body (red) and one for my bottom (microfibre and blue) and I carry a Uriwell with me as well. I don't have to leave my tent at night. My blue flannel being microfibre is very easy to...

    Let's talk waist packs!

In my case, I wear a fabric Decathlon pouch around my neck with my passport, money and cards under my hiking shirts. I like shirts and I like to have a collar. This pouch never leaves my body even when I'm sleeping. I also have a 2.5L waterproof Dymeena chest pack slung around my neck for my...

    Fleece or light rain/wind jacket?

I consider that my most important item of clothing is my windproof jacket. It helps to make all other items of clothing work better in my view.

    Layers guidance

In my case, I wear a Brinyge 'string vest' (I can't wear wool it makes me itch) and a shirt. I like to have a collar. I then have a 'thin' cardigan, a 'thick' cardigan and a windproof jacket. The most important bit of clothing is my windproof jacket, it can make any covering warmer. When I hike...

    Hiking skirts ... For men

I've worn a rain skirt (kilt) for a number of years, I can't stand waterproof trousers. The beauty of a rain skirt is that I can put it on, or take it off in about 20 seconds. I bought mine from Amazon, for less than £10. In order for it to work well, you need your preferred waterproof jacket...

    Any advice on sleeping bags?

Yes, don't buy one, buy a sleeping quilt and a good R-rated inflatable mattress. Mine is a Neo Air, expensive but really good, I've had it for a number of years now, and when rolled up is the size of a can of beer. I am of the opinion that buying a good mattress is more important than worrying...

    Sleep Systems

I've used a down-sleeping quilt for a number of years. It doesn't keep me so warm these days so to avoid buying another one I bought a £3.50 fleece blanket from Ebay. When I am ready to sleep I put the blanket over me and then pull the quilt over both of us. My warmth problem is now solved.

    How can I avoid blisters!!!???

I can only answer as an individual but when I first started hiking I bought a pair of Brasher boots (I just bought size 7, they seemed OK in the shop) and from then on I suffered from serious blisters. In my desperation, I went to my local Cotswold Outdoor shop and had my feet measured properly...

    Arles Vs Geneva Route+Stevenson

I hiked the GR10 route in 2015, from the Atlantic to the Med in 51 days. I crossed the Camino route in St. Jean-Pied-du Port, hundreds took the Camino route, eight of us carried on along the GR10. That was the year I was 70 and diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, that was in April. I had it...

Hiking Poles - leaving them behind...

Living in the UK I fly Easyjet from Gatwick. One important difference between them and Ryanair, the Easyjet cabin-free allowance is 50% bigger than Ryanair. This means I get all of my camping gear in my officially recognised £10 Easyjet bag, (from Amazon), the rest I wear and then put it all...

    Altus Poncho tips and tricks.

I live in the UK and bought my Altus Atmospheric from a Berlin outlet, because of Brexit I couldn't find a Spanish company to post one to me at the time. I have made three changes to my poncho, the first being that the hood is so big it kept falling over my eyes, I just fitted a small area of...

    Arles Vs Geneva Route+Stevenson

I'm from the UK, am 78 and still hiking. I walked from Le Puy to Figeac a few years ago and enjoyed it. I have also walked The Stevenson Way, even better. My neighbours little girl knocked on my door and said "My Mum said you have to read this book." It was 'Travels with a Donkey in the...
