Appreciate the replies and delighted to know that it is suitable for mountain biking. I remember the first time I did the Camino by bike I had little knowledge of the route and followed the road across Spain. I never did that again and have always used the walking route - it is so much more...
My wife and I are considering cycling from Le Puy this summer. However I am not sure how best to get to Le Puy with a bike from Ireland.... any suggestions would be welcome.
Also is the walking route suitable for cycling on?
Myself and my son cycled the Via Francigena in 2010 and I've only got round to uploading the dvd to Vimeo.
Here's the link. It's 67 mins long and I hope you enjoy it!

This is a lovely dvd to look at for anyone setting out on the Camino - or for anyone who has done it and would like a good record of the pilgrimage.
Thanks Wayfarer and fellow Irishman! It' s a different Camino on the bike and we miss out on a lot of the walking experience. I would love to walk it but i don't think I'm cut out for walking!! I have completed the Camino Frances six times and the Via de la Plata once. In 2010 I completed the...
I've done 7 Caminos and I think that starting at the beginning and continuing on is best. I feel that anyone who starts in Sarria is unlikely to ever come back and don another section!

This title is in my opinion either provocative or a misunderstanding about the Camino.
I have done many Caminos and I would always do if for religious purposes among other reasons.
Whether people care to admit it...
I've done 6 or 7 Caminos, all by bicycle though! My advice is not to cut too much off the route, see how you are going and while en route you can reassess your progress. Then if necessary you can take a bus to shorten your walking time.
My advice too would due to start though in Roncessvalles or...
Ive biked the Camino 7 times and had a bell just once. My preferred method was to shout from afar 'bike' and slow right down.
I never had any problems nor caused any either!
Common courtesy will do the trick.
I did the Via Francigena in 2010 from Canterbury to Rome by bike. Hugely satisfying but completely different experience from the Camino.
Looking into cycling to Jerusalem next either following Danube or starting Rome.
