Personally i’m going to see how things go to Bilbao. If I’m not feeling it, I’m going to beetle to Leon to walk the Salvador, maybe earlier than I thought
Maybe I’ll see you on the trail. I’m starting from Biarritz next Wed. Whilst I’m typing this, I see @trecile has replied re the situation with accommodation early on the route. For the first few days, I’m mixing plans to stay in a couple of muni albergues with booking a bed in private albergues...
Ps if you haven’t already, it’s worth calling directly accommodation with private rooms in SJPP eg hotels, to see whether they have any availability, as not all rooms are listed on booking.com etc
There are rooms available right now for Wed night in hotels on booking.com in Bayonne. You’ll have to throw money at the problem, the cheapest is the Ibis. You could then get the first train in the morning to SJPP. But suggest you move quickly.
I hope you have the other stops en route Pamplona...
The Barri Gotic proximity (at its southern end) to the waterfront, doesnt mean it’s near a beach in the usual sense of the word…
As for walking around after dark, believe me the Barri Gotic and the nearby Las Ramblas will be busy busy with people walking around, drinking inside and outside...
In Feb I met 2 people on the Portugues Central who had picked it up, they think from another pilgrim staying at the same muni albergue in Ponte de Lima. They had all shared a communal dinner.
