I've never sent bags ahead but I might need to in the future. At home I use a Deuter waist pack that I also use on the Camino. I can't see needing a full day pack with most stretches having lots of amenities.
No problems at all. Mine is about 10 years old so maybe they just don't make them like they used to?
I use an extra long shoe lace (also works as spare shoe laces, and clothes line) and tie it around my waist just under the pack. And if I'm walking without poles I weave my hands back inside...
Debated about getting a SIM card but I don't speak enough Spanish that I would be making any phone calls. So much free WIFI that I never really regretted not getting the SIM card after five weeks in Spain. And of course not being totally independent helps to interact more with others.
Any chance you can take a day or two off and regroup? Make your days really short? Not sure how many kms you have left to walk but make this last part enjoyable and not something you want to hurry up and finish.
I was holed up in a hotel by the large mall in Santiago. While I was waiting to...
A while back someone had a great suggestion of taxiing ahead at the beginning of the day and then walking the rest of the day. This was for someone who wanted to continue with the whole camino but couldn't walk long distances and had time constraints. You would just need to know where you want...
Because the busses are tricky I would suggest bussing ahead to Villafranca del Beirzo from Leon or somewhere just prior to that. From what I understand it gets more difficult to bus ahead after Villafranca because the bus route diverts up to Lugo. This is with Alsa, so maybe there are other...
Oh, no! How awful for you. Sorry I have no recommendations other than to ask around or Google.
I hope the compression socks work, but it sounds like a bit of rest for your feet is in order. And new shoes with a wider toe box.
Good luck to you!
I found it hit and miss which albergues have an open kitchen and which don't. We experienced a wide variety, including a place that cooked for us to a place that only had tables and chairs.
My daughter was lamenting the lack of communal dinners, so we used an app to find a place that...
Interesting. In Canada they have never given any credit for renewing early. And we've always been warned that countries could deny us entry if our passport expires within six months of travel.
While Roncesvalles is a nice stop, Burguete isn't much further down the road and in the morning you avoid the huge rush of Pilgrims first thing out the door.
If you're interested in Ernest Hemingway you can even check out the hotel he used to visit.
Love your questions!
Here's a quote I came across around 30 years ago and I think of it any time I go hiking
"Sure you might get lost, but don't worry you're biodegrable".
Every time I have walked I buy a little silver shell pendant from the same shop near the cathedral in Burgos.
I am also a fan of buying food and usually go to the little shops to seek out things I would never see at home.
My first time in Spain I bought a package of paella seasoning mix. When...
I always bring my poncho. First time on the Camino was the end of June 2013. We had visions of using it as something to sit on while taking a break or even using it to make shade while taking a break in the treeless areas.
Unfortunately it rained most of the time so it got a lot of use...
Thanks for this! I am holed up in Santiago with a bum knee for a week, with another week to go.
I've had the TV on subtitles and then been using Google translate on my phone to learn some more Spanish. They do have some funny TV shows and a good selection of radio stations but it's nice to...
Similar weather around O'Cebreiro a couple days back as well. My husband and daughter are walking right now but say the worst part is Albergues that still don't put their heat on at night.
A wool layer is always good because it's warm even if it gets wet. A poncho as a final layer also really...
I brought meds from home that were prescribed for me but I rarely used as I found alternatives.
-50mg diclofenac pills for Costochondritis that a naturopath added turmeric to an existing tincture as a replacement and it works just as well for me
- 7.5mg diclofenac cream with lidocaine(that's...
We actually tried this back in 2016 but were only about 1km away. Problem was the parking lot goes on forever before you even get close to the airport and we didn't know which way to walk. Luckily it was just a trial walk the night before our departure.
Ever since my first time on the Camino...
First week: I want the clean, dry shower stall.
Last week: I want the wet shower stall because that means I don't have to wait for the warm water to reach here.
