    Icebreaker/synthetic clothing and bedbugs

I got bedbugs and washed all my icebreaker items on the highest setting possible (60C, I believe). I hung them to dry, and I had no problems with shrinkage. Regardless, I would have taken shrinkage over bedbugs anyway. I wanted those things dead!

Not that I'm concerned but how many got bit by BED BUGS on the Camino

I got bit pretty bad for a few days. Before I left I sprayed my sleeping bag and backpack heavily with permethrian, and I was hyper paranoid about checking everywhere I stayed and not putting my bag on my bed, etc. But, I still got bit. My husband, however, stayed at the same places as me and...

Suddenly getting arch pain - what to do?

The arch right in the middle of my foot. The arch bandage I got (Pedifix Arch Bandage) wrapped around the middle, like a tube.

Suddenly getting arch pain - what to do?

Hey everyone! Thanks for the advice. I'm the OP and finished walking last November, so I thought I'd follow up. Before I shelled out the money to go to a podiatrist or physiotherapist, I went to a popular running store and asked for advice. They took a look at my feet and shoes, and instantly...

How to train for the Camino?

I completely agree with the advice above. I did hardly any training at all prior to the camino and was really worried about it, and I'm not going to lie... the first week was awful. It sucked. But it sucked mostly because I was forcing myself to keep up with other people and pushing myself...

    Is starting from Pamplona 'cheating'...?

I get really frustrated with people that call starting somewhere other than St. John "cheating." Who are you cheating?! Is there a test at the end that I don't know about? I started in Pamplona because of time constraints and don't regret it at all. I didn't feel like any less of a pilgrim...

    Water on the Frances

I took a water bladder because I found I drank more water with it... it was much easier for me to stay hydrated with the tube next to me, versus having to try and reach behind me for a bottle. It was worth the extra weight to me. However, water is available every few miles, so it's certainly not...

Couldn't have said it better if I tried!

Good backpack for petite women? Help!

I started this thread and as I mentioned somewhere along the way, I ended up with the Dueter Act Lite 45+10L. I tried on over 50 packs and even special some of the others recommended on this thread, but ultimately that was the one that fit me best. I finished my camino in November, and now...

    Negative Comments about Camino Frances

I remember reading that before my camino and I got a bit nervous, wondering if this trip I had planned and saved for for a looooong time was going to, well, suck. But what I quickly learned was that it's so much about your attitude, and after rereading that article, I realized that the things he...

    Hotel rooms rather than hostels?

My husband and I finished our camino on November 1st and stayed in private accommodation the vast majority of the time. When we first started we were indifferent, planning on staying in albergues most nights and hotels now and then when we felt like we wanted a bit more privacy. After about a...

    'Race' to secure a bed

I started October 5th from Pamplona, and I walk incredibly slow so I often don't get to my destination until well after 3, and there have been a few days I haven't arrived until closer to six. I've never had a problem getting a bed, but I was told that had I left just a few weeks earlier (mid...

    Bloggers

I am about halfway through my camino and blogging every few days, and I brought an iPad mini. It's taken me awhile to get used to typing with it, and it takes me considerably longer to type and post than a laptop would, but I don't personally think a laptop is worth the extra weight (unless you...

October Camino - How necessary is reflective gear?

My husband and I start our Camino October 4th from Pamplona, and we've already purchased all of our gear. For some reason, when we were buying things it never even crossed our minds to buy anything reflective. My husband recently came across an article that said that not only is reflective gear...

Suddenly getting arch pain - what to do?

I leave in six weeks and I've been walking and training in my shoes without a problem. No blisters, no pain, everything has been great. Then on Saturday I went on a six mile hike and suddenly started to get some pain in my arch on my right foot, towards the front/top of it. It's now Tuesday...

How much did you really train for the camino?

Wow, thank you everyone for the great advice! Since there is no way that I have enough time to walk 12-14 miles a day consecutively leading up to it (alas, that pesky thing called a job seems to interfere) I think the best advice for me is to just start slowly and build up. I am afraid of...

How much did you really train for the camino?

Hey there! I'm less than 2 months away from my Camino, and I'm starting to get rather nervous because I haven't been able to train as much or as hard as I had thought I would have been able to by this stage. I'm fairly young (30) and in pretty good shape. I work out regularly. I've been walking...

My First Camino Meeting - How Surreal

I leave October and I'm scared/nervous too, but I think most people are :) I just keep telling myself that it's MY camino, and if one day is too hard or I need to take a break/rest day, or can only walk half the way one day, that's okay. There is no such thing as doing it wrong. At least I hope so!

This story made me smile and got me SO EXCITED for my own camino. How amazing!

    Are most albergues heated?

I'm doing the Camino in October and I've started to get a bit nervous about being cold at night... are most of the albergues heated? I'll have a sleeping bag, but it's pretty light (40F) so I'm just wondering if that is going to be warm enough for me? With heat I'll be fine, but if that's not...
