Two weeks today for our first short day of walking . . ...
We are starting our first pilgrim walk two weeks tomorrow. My wife has practice packed every day for the past 10 days -- sometimes more than once a day.
We are looking for recommendations from you who are experienced on the Camino Frances:
- Which albergues/hostals would you make...
A route that I think you should look at is Canada-London; then Gatwick-Bilbao via EasyJet. Remember, however, that most flights from Canada arrive in London at Heathrow, not Gatwick and connections between the two are tedious, especially when jetlagged.
In Bilbao, there is a city bus from the...
This is timely for a question I have -- but unfortunately, it doesn't answer it.
First a couple of sentences of background. My wife and I are Canadians planning to walk our first Camino starting in September. At the moment, we are in Angers, France, the western part of the Loire Valley and we...
Is there an online source for the Ben Cole maps mentioned in the previous post? Ta.
If there is, maybe the link should be posted in a new thread with a different title.

You may find this blog helpful in planning a route. It belongs to a couple from London who are currently walking in northern France with the plan to complete there pilgimmage later this year. They started walking from their home in London on New Year's Day, as I recall. The reason I recommend...
One more vote for the Hostal Cuz Sol (see website in previous post). We stayed there in December 2007 for 3 nights. It has a great central location. The room we had was small but spotlessly clean. And CHEAP! I would definitely stay there again myself and recommend it to anyone looking for...
Good call about going carry-on. I always try to remember that there are just two basic categories of luggage: carry-on and lost. If they quibble about the plastic knife, just leave it at the security point. Annoying, I know, but replacable with ease.
Preliminary Notice of Meeting:
Here we go again! Mark your calendars!
Announcing the 4th Annual Camino Pilgrim Gathering in Victoria!!

I'm asking about inexpensive accommodations in Paris.
As part of a pre-Camino warm-up, we will be in Paris for a night or two near the end of April. We are planning to see some pilgrin-related sights and Syl has sent me some information via PM (thanks Syl!).
Does anyone have a recomendation...
Nathanael asked:
I just checked my canceled cheque. It was cashed about 5 weeks after I wrote it and I got the credential about the same time. I don't know much about the organization but I assume it's run on a day to day basis by a few volunteers so I wouldn't expect service like amazon.com...
I have bought lots of things online but there are two things I wouldn't buy sight unseen and untested:
The first is a backpack -- unless I had tried on and tested the absolutely IDENTICAL model.
The second is boots or walking shoes. In the case of boots/shoes, even trying on an identical...
Sounds to me as if you are a Canadian (or at least living in Canada). The simplest thing for you to do would be to get your credential from the Canadian Company of Pilgrims. Even though you have to become a member of the Canadian Company of Pilgrims (why not?) to get a credential from them, it...
My wife and I had originally been planning to walk starting from SJPP around the middle of April (the tag line on my introductory message was "An April start for us") but other issues have intervened and we are now planning to start about the middle of September next year.
I do have one piece...
Hi Judy (and Bonnie):
Thanks for the note.
So far, I haven't been comfortable sharing the muntutiae of our planning with the rest of the forum members. To date, we are just a couple of blowhards who claim we will be walking the Camino in the future and have no credentials as real...
Here's a website that will keep up your Spanish vocabulary in an almost painless way. It's called "Spanish Word of the Day" from the company Transparent Language. Here is the website: http://www.transparent.com/
They send you a word every day via email. You can just read it or turn on your...
My wife and I are planning to walk from SJPP starting about the 15th to 25th of April.
It will be our first pilgrimage although we have done some long day walks in Spain and quite a lot of walking elsewhere. We are already making regular practice walks. In April, we will be 60 and 59 years...
