Is there a real reason for a bed race???

I've walked several Caminos and have only slept outside once. I was walking the Via de la Plata in December and was in a very small village. I didn't run into another pilgrim on the entire trip. The woman with the key to the albergue was at the hospital with her husband who was being treated...

Tears on the Camino. The gift of tears.

I've told people at least one big cry is an important camino experience. Mine was in the church at Ponferrada on the one year anniversary of my mother's death. I had a repeat a few years later in the same church. Last year I met a very nice, intelligent kid walking with his grandfather...

Map "Buiza - Arbas del Puerto" - download here

Thanks. This is very helpful...now I know where I went wrong! I walked the Salvador a few years ago. There were four groups of pilgrims walking that day and we all got lost and tried to compare routes at the Albuergue that night. I think we all ended up even more confused.

    Facing my fears.

I have more than a few Caminos under my belt at this point. I get the same nervous feeling every time. It generally take me 2-3 days to get into the groove. Your feelings are very normal...remember them, they will be a great contrast when you walk into Santiago. It will give you one more...

Camino Frances November and early December 2013 :)

I once walked from Pamplona to Leon over the Christmas break. It was one of my all time favorite caminos. I never had a problem finding a place to stay and there were about 5-7 pilgrims per night. I had good weather....but there was a huge snow storm the day I finished walking. Leon was...

    Texas Pilgrims?

Re: Texas Pilgrims? I'm co-coordinator of the American Pilgrims on the Camino - Texas Gulf Coast Chapter. We're in Houston but sometimes we get folks from Central Texas and Corpus Christi at our events. We started meeting about 1 1/2 years ago. We have quarterly events and generally have...

    Spiritual preparation for a newbie

I am enjoying this tread quite a bit. The one thing I would add is to combine your physical and spiritual training. Get used to prayer or meditation while walking. What ever you decide is right for you make it part of your training. Your Camino has already started. I remember the...

    Camino Blues

Can you search out other pilgrims or pilgrims-to-be in your community? Almost two years ago, I did a Google search of "Camino de Santiago Houston" (my hometown). I found two people who had blogs or had posted picture. Soon after that I was walking my dogs while wearing a Camino T-Shirt...

    Weight fanaticism

I am not at all a weight fanatic but on my last Camino I decided to 'keep it light". I imagine I was 5-7 pounds lighter than my first Camino in 2003. Did I miss all my stuff? Not at all. It's really quite amazing how little I actually needed to walk the Camino. As I often tell people, you...

Laurie: Buen Camino. You are my fearless Camino hero! I hope to follow in your footsteps someday. Jeff

    Walking the Camino this December.

My all time favorite Camino was in December from Pamplona to Leon in 2005. I never lacked for a place to stay or food to eat. Yes, there were fewer pilgrims - I'd say on average about 2 to 7 per night from my experience. I did manage to see several small town churches as the locals were...
