Personally, I would always choose a direct flight into my destination city over anything involving a transfer. But if you're interested in checking your options, Rome2Rio is your best source. A quick look just now showed a single non-stop flight from Madrid to Porto, leaving about 10:30 am and...
It's hardly private. Anyone who has seen the botafumerio at any time other than the 10 or so specific days listed on the Cathedral website has seen it because some one or some group has paid for it. Mass is open to anyone who arrives on time to get a seat, which generally means hundreds of...
We always Google free walking tours in whatever city we're in. They have invariably been good - often with young entrepreneurs who develop their own itineraries based on their personal interests -- historic highlights, off-the-beaten-path, local foods, etc. Their personal enthusiasm and...
Yes, people can be truly wonderful. And Camino Angels surround us in the most unexpected ways and places. I'm so glad you got home safely. Hopefully all will be well with your partner. We never know where are pilgrimages will take us, do we? Peace!
Exactly. And, as quoted by @peregrina2000 in post 71 above, Mercedes, the head of the Association has said they also were given dinner that evening and breakfast the following morning. But they were told that this was all an exception to the Association rules and wouldn't be available to them...
I followed your blog and enjoyed every entry. That was quite an experience. And the scenery was extraordinary. Thanks for posting. All the best in your future hikes.
I'm so very sorry to learn this @mirichka. How heartbreaking. May Vlad rest in the peace of the Lord. My prayers and condolences his family and to you and all his friends and loved ones.
I stopped twice, due to injury. But it was always with the intention that I'd be back to finish. It took me three years, but I did it.
So I'd say it was more of interruption each time than abandonment. To me abandonment implies "I'm otta here!" I never felt that way. 😄
My guess is people who...
Thank you so much for sharing your journey. I feel like I'm right there with you. Fonfria was one of my favorite albergues - great food, wonderful people, and fun meeting up unexpectedly with pilgrims I'd last seen days earlier. But instead of 10 at dinner, we must have had close to 100! I guess...
It's been a while, but a few years back there were some stellar meltdowns on the Forum from people who'd been denied Compostelas. Maybe someone with more tech savvy than I could point you to them. But it has happened.
@jungleboy's made it, but I didn't see any of the others. Too bad, because I think the ones on this thread are more creative and original than many that made the cut -- so many of those seem to be shots of people jumping up and down in front of the Cathedral 😄. Still, lots of fun to look through...
What I do, as well. Baseball-type cap keeps my glasses clear of light drizzle, then I'll pull the hood of my rain jacket over the top as the rain picks up.
Banana boat / Stone boat ....
I love every one of the "pious legends" (as my pastor calls these tales 😉) around the boat, but this one actually makes sense. Banana boat, cod fleet, lumber truck - no problem understanding any of them. So why not Stone boat?
We'll never know exactly what got St...
